need engine

my engine blew in my 98 2.7. I was told it was cheaper and easier to swap to a 3.2. What all do i need to get along with the engine. So it can run flawless.

Basically all you need is the engine and computer..... some have done it without the computer and only experienced minor problems!

I am almost finished with the switch to a 3.2. Here are most of the things you will need:
1. 3.2 ECM (engine computer). Continue using the 2.7 ecm at your own risk. These engines are different and require different fuel flows, timing, etc.
2. The power steering pump is different, and the PS reservoir is located off the pump. Need the pump, reservoir, a pressure line and a return line.
3. The a/c compressor is basically the same as in the 2.7, but the manifold and a/c lines that run to the firewall and the condenser are different. Alarkyokie (another member who also did the switch) was able to bend the existing a/c lines and still use the 2.7 compressor, but I know I would end up quickly crushing the tubing if I tried it.
4. Need different radiator hoses to and from the radiator.
5. Need different heater hoses ( the hoses that run to the heater core ).
6. The catalytic converters and exhaust pipes can be reused, but the passengers side will require that it be shortened 3 inches between the oxygen sensor and where the pipe starts to bend downwards.
7. Need different alternator.
8. One of the motor mounts is different. The aluminum brackets that mount to the engine block and attach to the mounts are different. I got very lucky with mine because the junkyard left the brackets and mounts on the engine. These are almost always thrown in the trash when they take the engine out.

I think that covers most of it, but I may have forgotten something. Please feel free to ask questions - I would be happy to help. There are other members out there who have done this and have been very helpful and supplied me with valuable advice. Also, there is a link you might want to browse: click me.

solomd,
with that swap and the stuff that is different. is the stuff that you need available to find on the 3.2 car? in other words. if you had a donor car that the engine came out of. would you have everything you needed?

The cruise control diaphram unit has a different plastic attaching clip on the 2.7 (at least mine did..)my 3.2 came with the cruise unit. It comes apart, and by removing the cable attaching pin
I interchanged the cable with one that fit the 3.3 throttle/cruise
cable mount. Also added an oil cooler(the 3.2 was set up for it- the 2.7 didn't have one)..really a medium-sized tranny cooler...
but it has the same specs...and replaced the stock trans cooler with a bigger after market one. They look good viewed thru the nose opening!

Jleilich, if you found a 3.2 liter donor car and could take anything off of it that you needed, then you would be all set. In fact, that would be awesome. You could even switch the radiator, which has the connections for the oil cooler lines.

I know of a 300M with the 3.5 (not the H.O) and the tranny still in tact, not sure bout the rad itself but seems to be in good shape. It's located in RI

Will the engine from a 1st Gen fit in a 2nd Gen. I found an old Concorde with a 3.5.

There is more involved in using a 1st gen engine. Unless you really know what your doing, just use a 2nd gen engine.
