Lawd My 2.7 anyone ever heard of this?

Hey guys and Gals...Im new to this....And I have been reading and just want to know if any of you have this problem...Ok its winter time now so the engine oil light is not on at every red light BTW the car is a 98 Chrysler Concorde LX as in base model lol...Well be cause its winter in SC and the temp cant make up its mine 60+ during the day and about 20 at night....When I start my concorde up and its cold I get this noise from under the hood theres not a place where its loud at although its sounds like it coming from the back right top side of the engine but you can hear it all over..but it only does it when it is cold outside...The noise is not a knocking or pinging just a constant whin like as if the belt was dragging on something but the belt is tight...The other noise is a whenever it feels like making it noise it sounds like a belt or something and it gets quiet or loud its coming from the front of the engine like a rattling noise but it doesnt sound internal...Also when the car starts it smokes its that smelly smoke whitest-blue tent that you get from a lawnmower or weedeater not totally oil smelling but its not losing coolant....I use Castrol GTX 10-30 fully synthetic and the car has 82200 miles on it...Anyone ever had these noises or problems

your getting sludge build up man....a big sign that the motor is taking a dump.
the noises are the motor stressing with the buildup.
tear it down and clean it or get another motor.
anyone else have any suggestions?

Would taking it to Jiffylube and have them "back flush" the motor help get rid of the sludge buildup ??

Could be a bad head gasket creating the smoke if you aren't smelling oil.

Belt whining could be a number of things...but it could be a leaky water pump (which may create some burnoff smoke too...you didn't mention if its smoking from the tailpipe or the engine compartment)

It could be as simple as a loose belt.

First of all, isolate the noise. Pull your Alt and A/C belts off then start the car and try to find the noise. A lot of times it's the belts or an idler that you may be hearing. If the noise is still there, then you have another problem that could potentially be something major.

As far as the oil light problem, it could be a couple of things. Worst case -- sludge and/or oil pump.

Another possibility is the sending unit/wire. There is a TSB (NOT a recall) for this problem. It's #08-36-99 and requires modifying the wiring at the sending unit. You'll need to purchase part #5017800AA and the part runs about $18. If I remember right, they charge 0.2 hours labor to do it for you. I'd also replace the sending unit which is part #4608303AB and runs about $14. IF you're not having an oil pump problem, this should take care of the light coming on at low rpm. HTH

Sludge is only a real issue when your water pump starts to go. ALL water pumps go. most die between 70-100K miles

Thing is, the 2.7L water pump is driven off the timing CHAIN. This means, when the water pump starts to die, it drips the anti-freeze into the ENGINE OIL. causeing sludge. This is a bad thing. you want to get that Water pump changed ASAP. might as well put a new timing chain, and timing chain tensioner on right away too, because you have to remove them to get at them anyway.

I would suggest this of ANYONE with a 2.7. Change your chain and water pump every 70K.. and I bet you never EVER have a problem with sludge.

Ok went outside and started the car...I checked the oil first normal im at my end of my oil change, I checked the coolant before and after I started the motor...Just about min and as the motor ran it moved toward MAX warm...The belts I didnt check while the engine was running....but the belt that drives the A/C compressor looks to be in bad shape its cracked and makes noises it if try to move it with your had and it will at least move about a half if not more an inch back and forth the other belt doesnt look as bad but they both have 82+ miles on them and they really look like they need to be replaced BAD! OK that whinning noise wasnt that loud today it was barely there at all but it is warm outside as far as the smoke there was none I even revved the motor...Now I have heard of a Cat. converter going bad causing smoke from the tail pipe and my cat on the Pass. side sounds rough it is really sound like a 3.1 chevy exhuast....Think im gonna have the belts changed before I just to conclusions about sludge I will still get the engine and trany flusd next week tho.
