rim size question

I have some 15x6 rims that I need some tires for. I want to put some wider rubber on my car. The stock size tire for this car is 205 60 series. I was looking to put on some 215 55 series on there. Some people say that a 215 wouldnt fit on a 16 inch rim. Most people say it would be no problem. What are your opinions?

15x6 is a 15" rim.

But usually you can go one step higher. I haven't heard of anyone going wider on the 15" wheel though.

I know for a second gen....... You can put 235 - but 245 is pushing it - you start to worry about scraping the wheel housing.

on my 95 Dakota, I had a 15x6 rim. I once had a 255/60-15 on it. It bulged just a tad on the sidewall, but overall fit fine.

The wheel well is another issue because my Dak had a lot more room than a Trep. But, thats my .02 on the rim size.

Are you sure? That would be a 10" wide tire on a 6" wide wheel...

But then again, that would have a decent amount of side wall...

When looking at the tires you want be sure to check the tire manufacturers rim size specs. They vary slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer, but they are all pretty close. You can push it a little and how much really depends on the amount of sidewall and stiffness of the sidewall. A 215 is much better suited for a 7" wide wheel...
