Another Stupid Chrysler move!!!

Well, I came across THIS on the Allpar.com website and was rather disgusted. It looks as thou the 2.7L from our trusty LH cars will be carried over to the LX platform. The Magnum SE will cost approx $21,875 + $625 with the 2.7L engine.

Frankly, I'm surprised that DCX is keeping this engine. Have there been any upgrades (fixes) to this engine that we haven't heard of? Can those changes be carried over to the LH platform? UGH!!!!!

Comments?

Well, in all honesty...the 2.7L is a brand spankin new engine as of 1998. I doubt they would take all of their investment in it and cancel it.

That being said, they should come up with some more cash to fix its inherent problems. Or at least a engine bay sticker that say "Use strictly synthetic oil" or "Make sure to change oil every 3,000 miles".

But that would increase vehicle cost per km. It would actually run higher then the 3.5L meaning anyone that wanted to save money in the long run would get the 3.5L or 5.7L

I have heard that there have been fixes to the engine in recent years. You certainly don't see the new ones droping as much as the pre-00s.

As far as I know, the oiling problem was resolved with a higher volume oil pump. Other than that, I am unaware of any other changes. But, like was mentioned, you don't hear of problems with the newer 2.7's like we do with the '00 and older versions....

According to Car and Driver (Feb Issue), the engine in the Magnum isn't the 2.7 out of the Intrepid, but the 2.7 out of the Stratus. If I'm not mistaken, they are not the same engine.

I was wondering how they could put the 2.7 in that huge Magnum and expect it to move....well, it pushes my friend's '04 Whale - er, Concorde - medocrely (they call it the "Q-Ship") so I suppose they'll do it again......

How big is the Magnum compared to the 'Corde?

EDIT: It's smaller?? According to Allpar the Magnum's only 198" long.....man, it looks like a tank...

0-60 in just over 10 sec. I believe it said on allpar.com. I guess there's your answer. It's actually slower then the 4-cyl Avenger of so many years ago.

That's just plain ouch. Slower than the Intrepid (1st gen) too...

Well luckily I'll never be able to afford a Magnum so I won't have any problems there :p

It's 10.7 seconds - The Hummer H2 gets there in 10.1.

Same engine just mounted differently. The Magnum/300 2.7 is the same one as the Intrepid.

Still almost 4,000 pounds of pig to move.

Do the stratus and 'trep w/ the 2.7 have the same transmission?

Very similar. The difference is that the Status has the engine transverse mounted and the intrepid has the engine mounted front to rear. The tranny had to be adapted for this difference. Still the same internals in both tranny's(Ultradrive).

I knew about the mounting difference, which is why I wasn't sure about the transmission. I'm surprised Chrysler put in the time and effort to use a similar transmission with different engine configuration, saved them a lot of money no doubt.

I wonder if they're going to use this same engine in the Magnum.
