Interesting Intrepid State Trooper in Texas

I was driving along I-20 in East Texas and saw a completely unmarked GOLD Dodge Intrepid that had pulled over a speeder. It had lights hidden in the front grill area.

I couldn't believe it!

I hope that wasn't an impersonator. I mean, an unmarked car with hidden emergency lights. Sounds suspicious.

There's at least 4 of those intrepids in RI owned and operated by the RI state police.

I'm not sure what the law in Texas is..but aren't the police supposed to have a 'marked' vehicle for pull overs such as speeding? Didn't know unmarked cars could do that.

Not saying that there aren't impersonators out there, but there are a lot of unmarked police cars out there with hidden lights. Sometimes, they are in vehicles that no one would ever expect being a cop car, like a minivan. I see lots of Expeditions like that around here.

We've got black and silver Jeep pickups and Cherokees, white unmarked Suburbans, all colors of unmarked Crown Vics, even unmarked Camaros!! All have the blue lights in the grill. Tourism and speeders provides a lot of revenue!

here in maryland the State police and the Trans Auth. both have Mustangs and Camaros with hidden lights. Ive even heard rumors that they are useing service trucks (ford F-350's)with hidden lights.
They are sneaky around here.

What you saw may not have been State Patrol, but rather a local law enforcement vehicle. It's really not uncommon to see a much more suvilian looking vehicle used as a police car in a little town out in BFE. And I see them all the time out on the highways backroads patroling for speeders. I'll be heading out from Austin to Boerne today and I'm sure I'll pass at least half a dozen cars like that just waiting for me to pass through their little town doing .5 mile over the posted limit so they can give me a ticket...

around here the NYSP use marked patrol cars with hidden lights and unmarked. Also a few camaros. In Ct they use intrepids, tahoes, impalas and Grang Marquis all with what we call the FBI package(hidden lights and extremly fast in assorted colors)...in 1989 I was pulled over in Ct. by an unmarked Black Grand National...saw it on side of I84 and didn't think twice till the whole street around me lit up seconds later.

i was stationed in Hawaii for 3 years. Out there the cops use their own vehicles. they get a per-diem to buy a car, usually get mustangs , camaros, impalla's stuff like that, some have superchargers on them..
Used to be on wed night at hawaii dragway they would have "race a cop" night where the cops would bring their cars and you could race them.
pretty cool

in tx unmarked cars can pull people over but cant issue anytype of citation, they must call a marked car and officer to issue tickets

That doesnt suprize me at all. WI troopers, and a few county sherifs offices have all diffrent colored unmarked/lighted cars too. Really the only way you can tell is by the liscense plate. There only one additional antena too, so it makes it really hard. :(

lol, unmarked cars suck.... i saw a guy in a corvette get pulled over by an unmarked ford taurus... man it looked embarrassing, to the speeder and the cop... imagine having to drive one of those around? even if it did have a heavy duty motor(which the largest for those is a 3.0 vulcan-the name adds 30 hp)... it's a taurus!

You think thats bad, here in Western WA. the State Patrol also uses a completly stock looking Volvo Station Wagon and also a taxi cab. Various unmarked Pick-ups and I am sure some others that would make you cringe if you only knew. Most of the time you can tell cause the have a SP the end of the Lic. Plate # but there are a few in thier Road Rage Division that use completly undercover vechiles. I have to drive down thier Training Highway 2 times a day to get to and from work. Thier Acdemy is down the street from my office. You pretty much drive the limit or get a ticket. It truly sucks. Have seen some nice UC treps though, tinted windows and everything.
