Why you saying K&N users check that site out? Is there something specific we should be seeing?

Look for yourself. I used to use K&Ns myself until I read about UOA with K&Ns.

That's what I'm saying. You provided a link to the main board. There are thousands of threads to browse through. If you have one or a few specific threads you wanted us to see, than please link to those.

Also, what is UOA?

I provided the link to the main board because I didnt want ot be accused of trashing K&Ns. You all read the posts and draw your own conclusions.I sure did... It takes a while but it will be worth it. UOA is a Used Oil Analysis.

It's a little hard to draw my own conclusions when I don't know which thread(s) to read, and I sure ain't going to read through them all to see which ones are relevant to K&N.

I did come across one thread (http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/...;f=15;t=000184), but I have no idea what it really means and one test isn't going to persuade me either way. I'm not saying I'm K&N's number one fan or anything.

btw...what makes anyone certain the particles discovered in the UOA is the fault of the air filter? There is this thing called an oil filter, the brand/type of oil, and how hard the user pushes his/her engine.

LOL what lets the air enter your engine bro? That is the most important thing for the engine. If you get dirty air you are going to get a bad reading..I wont sit here and make this a pissing match between us. It isnt worth it. Take some interest and read through anything that interests you. Thats what I did. Took me weeks.. Would take me weeks to link them all up here. I was just trying to fill you all in on some usefull information. If you dont want to make the best of it then that is fine with me. I just provided the info. Take it as you will. If you are too lazy to read or dont have any interest dont take it out on me. I just wish I learned all this shit years ago. Thats why I linked you all up to this. I dont own a Trep anymore but you all are great people. I just thought I would pass along some useful information. Peace...

You are too sensitive.

Particulants get into your oil other than through the air filter. There are by-products from the break down of the oil itself. There is also particulants that form from wear on the engine and it's parts.

I plan on looking at it. But so far I haven't seen/read anything that proves K&N is a subpar filter. Maybe I just haven't read the right thread yet. As I said, there are a shit load of threads on that board with most of them having nothing to do with K&N.

i agree... there are lots of other ways that things can get into your oil... like when you fill your oil up.. you take the cap off.. and its way more open then the air flowing through your air filter. and how can you bash something that has proven itself to be a cheap signifigant object to get your hp to open up..

This must be the thread he's talking about ...
http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/...;f=15;t=000184

I read through a few things there using "K&N" as a search in both the oil and air filter forums. Out of 10 references to K&N, this was the only bad one. It would take a lot more than one guys opinion to make me change out my filter. Well, maybe if Sikorski ditzed it - but he would provide plenty of data to back it up.

I have been using a K&N on my Honda Valkyrie motorcycle for 5 five and 57k miles. I have had the carbs out, intake tubes, air box and heads off. There is no unusual wear anywhere in the intake, combustion chamber or scoring on the cylinder walls.

I used a KN filter on my Probe GT for 7yrs and 97K miles... what does that prove? Nothing at all... The only reason I bought one was because it was so difficult to find a paper filter for that car. I noticed no difference in performance and it was a pain in the ass to clean.

Anyway I'll stick with the paper filters

i raced a car on a dirt track for 2 years, other than a mistake by myself (not sealing the filter to the housing) i NEVER had to touch anypart of the motor including the carb. after 2 years of racing. When i sold the car, the gentleman that rebuilt the motor couldn't believe it have as much time on it on a di track.

what ever you feel, i know from experience that when used PROPERLY they work great.

Hey, I knew this post would stir things up. If you have had good luck with K&N by all means continue using them. All I can say is to do an UOA. Thats all the proof I needed. Evidently you all havent spent a whole lot of time at that site. Oh well... Just thought I would share some info.

I've been using that site for over 6 months. I still use K&N. That site is pretty mixed over it still, and until then I will continue to use those filters. I have liked some of the other experiments though on oil filters and oil treatments.
