Question 300m VS Trep

Thinking of selling the Trep and getting 300m. IS there any major problems with the 300 ... Any Year better than others,,, and is it worth the extra cash( since it is basically the same car )

Yes the 300M always has/had autostick on every car. There is almost no diffrence between them except syling and options. The 300M's also have the 3.5 High Output too, might always have, but not sure. It always has had the 3.5 though. I personally like the trep more, for styling inside and out, but the 300M is a much nicer car when you look st all the cool goodies...

Im interested in getting a 300M. And was just about to make a post like this until I pulled this one up.

Whats the biggest reliability worry on a 300M with 50-100k?

Whats the longest-running 3.5 on this board?

2001 is the best year unless you need a special.

all M's have 3.5L HO......

99's have some issues - cracking dash, seat heater, window reg, light switches.

01's had all the bugs worked out and the last year before decontenting (cutting costs). at least my car has had very few issues and is true with most 01's I have come across. did replace my engine at 68K though. apparently it was not handling oil well but appears to be very few situations like this around.

50-100K:

1. timing chain should be replaced
2. thoroughly check engine....
compression
oil analysis
flush and fill all fluids
3. might pop over to 300M board to check some info there

<whisper>Pssst it's the same car as an Intrepid</whisper>

Okay it looks nicer and I am sure the resale is a lot better... but come to think of it that's not good for used car buyers... Intrepids are a better deal and like I said it's the same car

The R/T is mechanically a 300M underneath. The same drivetrain, suspension, steering, wheel and tire size, the same brakes, and the R/T has a cleaner cut through the wind. The 300M is a nice piece, with all the extra toys though.

Other than stiffer springs the RT is the same as the ES... Other than slightly larger rotor the ES is the same as the SE... well except with the SE you get that wonderful 2.7L engine

comparison

My dad has owned a LHS then a 300 m and now I own a ES.
I see a diff in power but really wouldnt use it that much its not like I would streetrace a 300m any more than the ES.
resale on used isnt realy that great for lhs or 300m. someone else said intrepids are pretty much the same car.
I think stay with what you got and buy something els to make you happy maybe a hemiiiiiiiii

CAREFUL...........there are several things different between the R/T and ES, ESPECIALLY pre-2002, they aren't even CLOSE to being the same, and during/after 2002 the ES' were decontented. So the only year that MAY compare for these 2 models was 2002........and there were several big differences in that year for the two models.

I think a 300M is even a BETTER deal used than an Intrepid because the value of the car drops even more than on an Intrepid due to the high original price.

I can get an '02 Intrepid ES for about $13000-14000 CDN........whereas an '02 300M with the same mileage will run me around $15000-16000 CDN

Thanks for the input. I think i'll stick with the Trep.

I like the Rear of the 300m but the Front of the Trep.

(Maybe there is a Photoshop pic somewhere??)

I think Money would be better spent keeping up the Trep!!

well i've seen a new intrepid sxt for 20k, a 2k3 300 special with 7.5k miles for 23k, and a 2001 trep es with 30k for 10k, in general 300s cost between 1.5 and 2x more than a comparable intrepid i like the intrepid styling a lot more, and they are a great deal if you get a 3.5l. from the trends i've seen the 300m loses the most value in its first year or two and then is steady. i've not seen a used 300 in my area for more than 25k, and i've seen the older models down to around 12. the intrepids, i see slightly used ones for 15, and then the 2000-2002 for around 10k. it seems like it holds value for a year and then goes down fairly quick.

This statement is not accurate. The steering gear ratio, insulation, brakes, rotors, wheels, suspension (springs, bushings, etc) tires, engine (size and output) engine controller, and other parts are the same as the 300M. Intrepids have a wide variance in machinery. A base car with the 2.7 and lesser brakes, hp, suspension, etc is a very different animal than the R/T or the 300M. The 300M has extra goodies unavailable on the R/T, such as heated seats, memory mirrors, etc.
