Hit in the rear

So my 04 has been sitting the garage for weeks ( just 1200miles on the clock). Nice day, decide to drive to Lowe's just to warm it up. On the way home lady gets her foot on the go pedal instead of the stop pedal and hits me in the rear end. No one hurt just several scuff marks on the rubber bumper. Friendly body shop rubs out about 90 % of the scuff marks but there are two small dents in the rubber bumper cover about an inch long. Finally to the question-should I let them r&r cover sand it down and repaint it, or live with the dings. Body shop doesn't think there is damage to the structure under the cover but can't be sure until the cover is off.

Have them do whatever it takes to make your bumper look the way it did prior to the accident. This assumes your 'lady-friend' is going to pick up the nut.

BUT FIRST REMOVE THE COVER.

Years back my 2nd gen RX-7 got TAPPED by a Caprice. Forget the cosmetics, unknown to me both bumper struts popped. They cost $$$. The Woman that TAPPED me offered $50 on the spot to walk away. -REGRET!

Davescanoe has a very valid point; those "shock absorber" pieces on the rear bumper aren't cheap, and usually once they compress, they don't pop out. Elsewise do like I did on my Trep after my darling bride backed into a trailer hitch, cover the scrapes with some cool aftermarket striplights. At night it really gives the rear end charactor and uniqueness.

I would definetely have the cover taken off and checked. You never know what hidden damage is underneath.

never take money at the scene and always call the police. When I got hit Friday night the first thing the guy that hit me asked was "do you want to call the police?" My answer was "Absolutely". Always call the police and get a police report. The insurance company will ask for it.

Ugh...... always happens when the car is new. Stupid Murphy. Stupid laws!!!

BTW, if she's paying for it, don't hesitate to have the bumper cover taken off.

That is nothing. My Mustang (01 Cobra with out a scratch) was hit so hard that drive shaft tunnel is buckled about six inches behind the drivers seat. The differential is leaking fluid (trainy problems?). The floor pan is wavy. The Drivers seat will no longer stay up. The rear subframe buckled its mounting point in the front and hit the frame hard enough to leave bolt marks. Gas tank is shot.

All this and only a small buckles in the quarter panels. Also the structural bumper (under the plastic) was not scratched. The whole car bent up from behind the drivers seat about 1 to 2 inches.

All this and the car is not totaled and is not even going to be fixed correctly. Well it might but that is another lawsuit because to fix it correctly will cost 18K and fixing it that way was recommended back in October.

WOW, sounds totaled to me that's amazing! good luck with that! my question for you is why you have that car if you are a mopar fan?

Because Mopar never made that kind of car for 20 years. I wanted a 2 door V8 RWD car. Mopar had the neon and the avenger. I also own an 81 Dodge Mirada CMX with a 360. I was at carlisle in the car carrol. Red with a white top.

But come it looks good
