Car Got Broken Into

So last night, i'm walking to car from a night class i take at school, and i am thinking to myself, why does my car seem lit up? i go closer and i notice theres trash near the drivers door and i open the car without thinking and its unlocked... i sit, turn my car on and reach for my mp3 player... huh... what's that... where'd it go? i look at the radio and it's bashed up, my glove box is open(lighting up the car), and my steering column is in some stage of being dimantled. It hits me that someone was in my car... i look out at the trash near my door and its all random stuff from inside, check the center console... empty...
So it looks like i lost a $500 ipod, Dell Axim PDA, my check book, my registration and insurance info, a pair of shoes(lol wtf?), and maybe other stuff, i haven't inspected fully. Theres minimal damage on the car, no broken windows or anything, some scratches only on the door, it seems like they were trying to steal the car cause the steering column was being taken apart with a torx wrench (found the screws on the floor). I guess they though i had some heavy duty mods under the hood with the lights on the roof...
anyway, my insurance told me it will only cover damage to the car, which is pointless when i lost a thousand dollars of my stuff and only a few hundred dollars to replace the radio, if i even decide to....
Either way, i'm not parking my car at home anytime soon, and i guess i can live without an mp3 player for a little while...

no, they didn't even go and inspect the car, they said to just go and fill out a report....
it looks like they were taking it apart but didn't get too far, could've been people coming from classes or something... i don't know. i still have to call the campus police as well cause it happened in a college parking lot.

I can feel for you, my old Trans Am was a magnet, and was broken into 7 times.

Fingerprinting would be nice, but lets face it, this is not a TV show, and the police wont waste there time unless someone was killed in the car.

Your best hope is that some camera on the campus caught these people, so you should check with your local security.

sorry to here that. I thought the insurance would cover all of that. I do not see why not. I thought anything that is inside your car is protected?

Your car insurance should cover the headunit. It was mounted and installed to the car.

The rest, homeowners insurance will cover.

If it's mounted to the car, car insurance. If it's an item laying inside the car, and the car is parked on your property, it is homeowners insurance.

i was thinking that since i have to park in the same place at least twice a week, i'd leave the guy the keys or something so at least i can make a real claim to my insurance company.... but i decided against it.... good news is i found my registration and one of the items i thought was stolen, but i'm still out my stereo and mp3 player... thankfully my sales rep from CDW is going to give me a huge discount on a new ipod.

I don't know what part of Canada you're from, but my friend has had numerous break-in attempts on his old car, only once were they successful because he forgot to arm the alarm, and even then, they only got away with an crossover or something like that. And even then, he got caught eventually.

But everytime we were inside the house and we heard his car alarm go off, we ran outside with bats in hand, hoping the fuckers would stick around
