Is there a keychain remote out there that I could replace mine with and it would be able to control all the features of 2 cars (unlock, lock, trunk, panic, etc...)

I just want 1 remote not 2 on my keychain.

Also if you could program it to do the garage door also that would be cool too.

I looked all over the intrenet and couldn't find one..... the closest I got was a unit by remoco that had 4 buttons but it could control a garage door. But since my remote has 4 buttons this doesn't help anything.

Or you could upgrade both systems to aftermarket. DEI's 4 button remotes are 15 channels each. Plenty of channels to control 2 cars and they make a garage door opener interface... ;)

Where can I find info on DEI?

When I hear those letters I think Dale Earnhart Inc.

Sorry I am a nascar fan.....

Go Rusty!!!!

The web site is www.directed.com. There is a ton of information there and more brands/models to choose from than you can believe. But for the most part, all of it is great stuff...

Thanks I will search around and see if I can find something that will not cost an arm and a leg.

I may have found something.

It is a DEI remote and I emailed the store that was selling it and asked if it could control both cars and the garage door.

His answer was yes so now I need $40

The same place also had the window automation modules for $80 a piece.

http://www.radiomancaraudio.com/DEI-Window-Modules.htm

So I may get crazy and do both.

So wait. You already have DEI systems in your cars now? If not I'd like to know what DEI remote is going to control they systems (assuming they are OEM) you currently have. No DEI remote that I'm aware of is going to directly control an OEM keyless system...

That is exactly what I am afraid of

The guy who emailed me back said the DEI 476A could do it.

I even told him that it was for a stock alarm/keyless system, a garage door, and the addon keyless entry in my wife's explorer.

I wish there was someone who could verify this......

Another problem is I am looking at all kinds of cool stuff..... remote starters, alarms, window automation....

Is DEI good..... which system would work best with my trep. I don't need remote start but for the right price I might get it. Will there alarm systems work with our stock system or will I have to seperate alarms?

My wife's exploder has keyless entry she wants remote start the guy at the audio shop quoted me like $70 to add it since I already have the keyless module.

Damn it I need more money where did I put that winning lotto ticket it must be around here somewhere.

Unfortunately, I don't think the guy you talked to either understood what you were asking or has a clue what he's talking about. Of course it could be both. The 476 (not sure about a 476A) is the remote used with some Automate systems. Automate is essentially the OEM brand name DEI uses for some of their systems. The shop I worked at put numerous Automate systems in cars for dealers that the customers requested keyless entry in but were not equipped with it from the factory. If you have a Chrysler OEM keyless in your car I honestly don't see that remote programming in. And if that keyless entry in the Explorer was done by the dealer it's more than likely a Code Alarm unit that I'll guarantee won't be controlled by the DEI remote.

A $70 remote start add-on to a keyless entry system would scare the crap out of me. Quite honestly, I'd start searching for a different shop. Most keyless entry systems don't even have an aux output to control a remote start, much less have the range to make one very usefull.

As for DEI they have been the world leader in car alarms and "remote convenience" systems for several years. Now, while no company is perfect, my personal opinion (after working with them and a few other brands for several years) is that they are tops in the industry. They have a quality product and do a very good job of standing behind it. However, keep in mind that any system is only as good as the guy who installs it... ;)

Alright!!!!

Sounds like I have found someone to talk to who knows something!!!!

Ok lets look at it this way......

If I install a DEI alarm with keyless and remote start (Not that I need it a few min. in the cold never hurt me) would my OEM alarm become a problem.

Would I be able to toss the chrysler remote in a drawer and forget about it?

Also the exploder has an aftermaket keyless..... I think it is called UNGO.

If you install a DEI alarm/keyless/remote start, what ever you want, if the installer knows what he's doing, you can have a fully functional OEM alarm along with a fully functional DEI system. All from the DEI remote only! Toss the OEM remote in that junk drawer and forget about it.

As for the Explorer, you won't be able to control it with a DEI remote. Ungo is made by the same company who produces Clarion car audio. Two very separate and competing companies. If you want to have one remote for both, then both will need to have compatible systems...

Well that is going to be a problem....

I was planing on saving a few $$$ and installing it myself. Is it really that hard to interface with the OEM alarm?

As for the exploder to hell with it I will just use the key. (We only have 1 working remote the 2nd has a stuck key and it just drains the battery.

Which system would you recommend? I would like a siren instead of just the horn. All my OEM features and window automation looks too damn cool to pass up.

And I would like it to cover everything. someone hits the car the alarm goes off.... someone opens the hood the alarm goes off....

Oh and battery backup would be cool.

Can I do all these things without spending $500???

Not likely. :( The deal is you're not supposed to be able to buy most DEI products (there are a few exceptions) over the counter. The dealer agreement states that it must be installed by the shop which sells it by their trained professional installers. If this is not done, you'll lose your lifetime warranty.

It can be a pain to connect to the OEM security system, though these aren't too bad. Do you have the Sentry key system? If so you'll need another module to bypass that. Window automation can be a real PIA as well.

If you're really interested in doing it yourself you can often times find systems available on eBay. I can help you with the wiring, but nothing is of better help than experience...
