Lightbulb Cylinder deactivation for the HEMI

I just got a Dodge Magnum brochure in the mail and noticed something I had not heard mentioned before in regards to the HEMI. Listed under 'Perfomance:' it says, "MDS (Multi Displacement System) for increased fuel efficiency (RT)*". I take this to mean cylinder deactivation will be available on the HEMI. This is the first I have heard of anything like this being offered on a DCX vehicle. Has anyone heard anything about this being offered on the the Ram, Durango or 300C?

I know that GM is close to offering this and it bothered me to think that DC was lagging behind in this nobrainer fuel saving technique.

I thought the Ram and durango were supposed to get this feature right away but it will probably show up later.

I don't understand how this will work really. I know they kill spark to the deactivated cylinders. But do they close the valves and leave compression in the cylinder or leave the valves open and have no compression?

Another thing, won't people with loud exhausts get a v6 or however many cylinders it will be on sound when it has dead cylinders?

The middle 4 cylinders will be deactivated by the hydraulic valve lifters disabled, fuel injectors disabled, and I believe spark is halted.
They'll cut in and out on demand seamlessly, governed largely by the throttle-by-wire setup.
A performance exhaust will sound very similar on 4 or 8, except the frequency will seem to drop, (as if you just shifted to a much higher gear )
