Smile When to Show the Charger?

I figure that it has to be shown either at New York or Daytona 500. Do you think it will be shown at one or the other or neither.

If I was DCX I would deput it at Daytona 500. I would even pull strings to make it the pace car. Its were the Charger made its name anyway. Then place the concepts of the magnum, 300c, and the charger around the track. I am sure the Mopar Guys left at DCX thought this would be a good idea. But the germans probabley just said "NASCAR?" One of the largest audueinces short of the superbowl? Then I would bombard the commercials with the new charger. Not to mention you would nail your target audience.

Or they could release it at the New York Auto show to a limited audience of snobby car buyers. And risk getting lost in the crowd of other concepts.

So what do you guys think?

There has been rumor to both locations.

1) Daytona

Is the people who watch NASCAR really DC's target audience? Not sure. If you live in certain areas of the US, NASCAR is akin to rednecks. (I don't agree with that, but it is a common perception of NASCAR fans). Does DC want this comparison? I know for sure that noone I know in NY watches it at all. But, who knows.

2) NY Auto Show

A once overlooked auto show that gets bigger every year. Size wise, its as big as the Detroit Auto Show. Impact? Not as big as the Detroit show. Though, DC is going to want to steal the show no matter the venue. They could do this with the next Grand Cherokee and the Charger. Or just use the NY show to release the GC and let the Charger show up at Daytona.

I guess we will find out pretty soon either way. I'm looking forward to it no matter where it ends up.

Intrepedatious:

Two buddies are on the way down to Daytona, and have an invite to the "BIG" Dodge party there. Will advise once I hear back.

Did you ever hear why they did not display the Enforcer at Chicago?

Let's hope there's some good news from your friends!

I never did hear about what happened with the Enforcer.

Rednecks are also associated with Trucks and trucks have been selling pretty well. Chrysler maynot want the redneck image but to Dodge it is bread and butter. Also in many places in the country it is not just rednecks who watch nascar.

And far from taking away from New York Show it may cause more buzz for it.

But talk about stealing the show with CopperRed Charger pacing the field.

Something tells me that Dodge isn't particulairly worried about that connection, given that they participate both in Nascar, and the Craftsman truck series. However, what they should be worried about is the distribution of publicity. As you point out, there are many people who don't watch Nascar. If it were to debut at an auto show (really, it should be Toronto, because it's a true international auto show, and, well, because it's the one I go to ), then it would be seen by a wider range of people, I would think.

But if you debut at an auto-show you could be upstaged. Also with all the nascar cars looking alike a cool pace car would stand out.

Maybe I just want to see it sooner.

Where was this info leaked?

I heard it was originally leaked through NASCAR. I heard that NASCAR was told that the Intrepid would be last made in 2004, and that Dodge has until July of 2004 to introduce it to NASCAR.

Seems like they would wait until the Pepsi 400 then.

Just speculation as far as I can tell. Nothing concrete about anything. Just shot D.C. an inquiry about it though.

because the charger in the late 60s was way cooler, plus havent you noticed them bringing back names and design from "retro" cars, i.e. GTO, the new chevy Bel-Air (POS), the ford 49, and the styling of the new mustang and ssr, not to mention PT Cruiser

Well... Just like all the previous times before, everyone has got their undies in a knot over absolutely nothing. Dodge said they're not producing the Charger R/T. Here is everything in it's entirety:

Well..........that doesn't mean ANYTHING.............they can't tell you it's coming out on so and so a date because nothing has been made public...........they can't even confirm the existance of the car. They're not gonna just start emailing people. When they show the car at an auto show..............that's when they can email people to confirm it's existance.

If you're not replacing the Intrepid with the Charger, what are you replacing it with?
