Had Enough of Dealers

I have about had enough of the dealers who attempt to sell us Dodges and such. Today, I took my Mom to Greenway Dodge in Orlando to find her a replacement for the Intrepid, but the salesman just did not understand that we didn't want a Concorde, and we wanted an Intrepid, but since he only had a Concorde with leather seats, he figured we would substitute that, and I wouldn't care. That was strike one. Then after I attempted to make it clear we didn't want that car, he runs away and brings out a dealer plate, and tells us we should take a test drive in the car. It was no different than the Intrepid, except for the fact of a 3.5, and no AutoStick...that pissed me off as well...especially since we could use none of the extra power on a wet road...strike two. Strike three came as we were sitting inside of the dealership waiting for him to "price" the car we didn't want, then when he finally got the hint we wanted another Intrepid or nothing, he said he would have his manager do some homework and find us the car we wanted, so we said ok, and asked him for a card, so we could go back in the future and ask for him...that will never happen...after 10 minutes of waiting for him to get his card, we decided to just leave since noone takes that long for a business card unless they had to go to kinko's to order some. It was ok, but as soon as we got to the car to leave, here comes the salesman and the sales manager out to pressure us some more and get us back inside, but not without making sure we didn't leave unhappy. Bad idea...since they kept insisting that we let them find us a car and come back later in the night or in the morning to buy a car from them...talk bout high-pressure sales, and it seems like every Dodge, Chrysler, or Jeep dealer is like this, since they do it in St. Pete as well, even after buying 2 cars from their dealership.
And before we even got into the dealership, they already had things going against them on the Intrepids, and its just little things that have turned me off to them...small stuff like a carpeted cover inside the decklid which I would expect something of the sort on a car that they have the nerve to charge $27,000 for, the cheap looking way they took out the traction control off switch, they didn't even mold a new piece for the dash, just plugged it up with plastic, and it looks like they forgot to put something in there. AutoStick i guess has been gone since the 2003 model year in Intrepids, which pissed me off again, since we now have no reason to get an Intrepid, and even though we don't use it much, I use it enough to like it, and would rather have it look much better than just a plain D 3 L, since that is on cars much much cheaper, might as well just hold on to it until the Charger comes out. They still charge you for an exhuast tip on the ES, but when I looked at every car with that listed, there was no tip, unless they consider a tailpipe a tip...it is just small stuff that can make or break a deal, and this deal is most likely broken because of it

Sorry to rain on your parade even further, but they're not coming out with the Charger. I just got a reply from headquarters, stating that they are not looking at producing the Charger.

well, im about to say f**k dodge then for full size sedans...looks like mom will be talking to her friend who used to work for GM and time to look at the new Grand Prixs
and that intrepid i looked at in St Pete without the decklid carpeting was just like the car you have...deep lava purple, 3.5, and such
yes, i said deep lava purple, because it isnt red

just one question though, how can you be sure they just dont want you out "releasing" any information to the press, since they still try to do everything in secret, just look at the YB and Otto fiasco

Dodge has it's head up it's keister if it doesn't trake asvantage of the current retro craze and produce a Hemi Charger. I know they would sell like crazy. Watch how fast the new 2005 Mustangs get snatched up. :dozeoff:

You don't have ANY proof whatsoever that the Charger ISN'T gonna be built..........chances are very good that it IS gonna be.

The turn side is you don't have any proof that it will... but on topic I had the same kind of experience at Norwood Dodge in MA. They were giving me a price on my trade-in and my keys disappeared... it was like we were being trapped... when we finally got our keys back and were going out the door they were chasing after us with a "Why can't we sell you a car tonight"...

If they are that high pressure either it's a car they can't get rid of or their prices stink compared to other dealers. This dealer had a beautiful building which I guess generated a lot of overhead because their best price was 2K higher than 2 other dealers we went to. Try another dealer there are plenty... and don't think the same thing can't happen to you at a GM dealer. McLauglin Chevy in Bridgewater MA is a high pressure why can't we sell you a car today kind of place too.

I actually had a mixed experience with the Norwood location. I bought my '97 3.2 Trep from them in '98. Salesman did a good job accommodating my needs on the front end, but he did mislead me on the extended warranty offered by their dealership. He informed me that if I never actually used the warranty to cover any repairs that I would be entitled to the getting the cost of it back once it expired. Well, three years later when I went to follow-up on that offer the sales rep was nowhere to be found and the sales manager said that policy was never in place if it's not activated. Wasn't really surprised by that point but fortunately that car never gave me any problems until I cracked the head gasket at 106k.

Ended up having most of my regular maintenance done at Burlington Dodge and I liked their attitude so much I bought my current '00 ES from them the same day I limped the '97 in to see what was wrong with it. I did take a day between the exchange though to verify with another garage that it was the head gasket that was gone just so I would have the peace of mind of knowing that the dealership wasn't telling me something serious was wrong simply to sell me a new ride...

I guess to me it's just a matter of finding a dealership that you feel comfortable with and trust enough to keep your needs in mind at least a little bit..

Just my .02

If you are looking for a new Dodge I would recommend Central Dodge in Raynham or Westminister Dodge in Dorchester... they were both good... I ened up buying from Westminister because they offered me more for my trade in

But you always need to check prices at more than one dealer... Best is if you don't have a trade-in... because if you know what you want color and options wise you can just use the phone

There is a Charger in the works. A few of my customers are doing tool work for the Charger now. Expect to see it early 2004. One will be doing taillight tools very soon(thet won the bid). That will be interesting to see.

Dealing with salesman can be a real pain. I have found that if go into a dealer knowing what you want, the salesman can BS you. I suggest doing research on the web. I used this website http://dealernet.com/?session_id=200207686244333 to buy two cars. We were looking for a new Intrepid in 2002 and my wife wanted a silver RT. I wanted all the bells and whistles so I went to the above website to search. We ended up finding one in Maryland, over a 100 miles from New Jersey. I even tried to get my local to dealer to do a dealer trade buy the other dealer said no. Anyway, after about four phone calls, the deal was done. I got exactly what I wanted, for the price I wanted, without even stepping foot in the dealer. After a two hour visit for the paperwork, we were done. Best way to buy a car.

The second car was a 2002 Firebird Formula my son wanted. He wanted black with a six speed. Did the same thing, found the car over 100 miles away, did the deal over the phone, very smooth.

Most all Dodge dealers list their inventory online. You can save a lot of aggravation if you check what the dealer has before you visit. The even list the sticker so you can see the options.

i tried that, but i still have to deal with the dealers trying to rip me off, but i'm sure that i would have the potential at a GM dealership for the same thing, but if we can get the employee discount on it, it will make it much easier in that regard

I went online and got 'invoice' pricing. I took that information to my local Dealers and let them bid against each other. Told them hands down so and so, at so and so Chrysler can do it for so and so
$$. Made the actual purchase from a dealer 50+ miles away. Been back only twice, first service and a stereo swap.

You can go to any dealer. I bought in Maryland but use the local dealer for what little problems I have had. As for dealers trying to rip you off, the more you know the more you save. You know that stuff they add as dealer installed options? You know, the paint sealant, undercoating, seat fabric protector? Decline it all, its just added profit. My youngest son bought a new 2002 stratus RT and I told the dealer that I didn't want any of it, over $1000 worth of crap. He took it all off plus a very good deal. As long as the dealer knows you will walk, he will deal.
