Exclamation FYI pvc and cold air intakes.

I have been looking into the use of the white pcv and cpvc for use as a cold air induction aid for typical underhood applications.
First pvc will cool faster than ABS plastic from the just the white coampared to the black as black holds heat..
Pvc will burn at the same temp as ABS. both will give off toxic fumes if melting takes place of either composite.
The underhood temps will never reach anything close to the kind of heat needed to have a negative affect on this type of composite. While the car is in motion temps decrease dramtically due to air circulating up from the road around the compartment. There is more risk of damage to stickers, rubber seals and other plastic parts under the hood comapred to the use of PVC.This is just my two cents. If you were to use 8 inches of abs aluminim or pvc, pvc would also be the lightest.
Most race teams that utilizes a brake cooling system use more pvc in there piping than any other composites. ribbed or smooth.
I am not telling you to use this on your car. I will be. its lighter its cooler. paintable and cheaper than most alternatives.
I see so many are saying there are negatives to using this material and I didnt beleive it. After looking into it. its not true.
Not saying ABS isnt a good substiute. but the cooler the air sucked in the better.

your info is slightly flawed..black doesn't retain heat more than white..

.black absorbs more heat from the sun than white, because white reflects light,,while black absorbs it...

therefore the color should make no difference under the hood...

to go one step farther you mentin painting it..therefore it would no longer be white...

Well my point was if black retains heat and were talking about having no heat going into the engine then white would better right. On the other point i was going to paint it silver which ould help to relect heat which would also be good..

the point is...color alone does not retain heat

what you are talking about is the fact that colors reflect or absorb light..such as sunlight..which is what causes temperature change....not the color itself..

under the hood = no sunlight..therefore color is irrelevant...

example..take 2 identical intrepids..one white ,,one black

sit them in the afternoon sun...the black will absorb the suns rays, while the white reflects them..therefore the black Intrepid will be hotter...place the same two Intrepids in a dark garage..they will be the same temperature because there is no sunshine to absorb or reflect..

or you could just use an aluminum intake tube, maybe a ceramic coated one, and you wouldn't have to worry about heat

are we still talikin about this. which one would give the coldest air to the engine. the white one as it would cool faster and wouldnt retain the heat that the black would... those are also your words..
Anyways.. lets end this thread as im getting bored...

it's a shame you get bored, when you don't understand something...

instead of ending the thread read my posts,,your theory on color is scientifically wrong

FACT....the color has no affect on heat retention or dissipation

I bet you could get an extra 12 hp if you painted it RED!!

No sunlight = NO increase/decrease in heat absorbsion/retention based on color....but if we consider materials....whole 'nother story...
