cat. convertor

my 93 intrepid needs a new main cat. convertor the one that is on there sounds like there is metal rattling on the bottom of it now i can get an almost new one from the junkyard but it is from a 3.5 and i have the 3.3 i am wondering if the convertor was the same size for both engines and does anyone know if a 2nd gen convertor would fit also because they have a smashed up 2000 also with low miles but the engine was already gone when i seen the car.

The outlet pipe size, and probably the inlet pipe sizes will be smaller on the 3.3L.

You could use a generic cat, and a Y pipe.

Are you sure it's not the heat shield making the noise?

no it is definately inside there is alot of noise from it when the car is idling and i tapped it with a hammer lightly when the engine was off and you can hear metal pieces inside
but i do alot of city driving so that may be why it needs replaced.
