IM SLOWeR then others(car wise)

ok so i kno wthe 2.7 is not like the 3.5 but i tell u last year before winter hit my car was a beast, i loved its acceleration. now, i struggle(not really) to get to 60mph and not until i get to like 65 70 does it deside to shift again, when i hit 60 it feels like it wants to shift but its just slowed down. i feel like im towing a semi truck.

so far i did these
1.)spark plugs before winter
2.)tranny flush last summer(thanks DCRepid)
3.)synthetic oil switch at 100k

im now at 105k miles and i dunno whats wrong, ALSO my gas mielage is fucked up, my car reads out 13-14mpg city and 15 on highwat, and i have a 2.7L.

i tried my comp codes and that didnt work, i cant get them out

TIA

ALi

Ali,
The cold weather plays a MAJOR factor in low mpg. Wait until the summer time, and see what mpg you get.

Wow that's some real low gas mileage, and I thought I was the champ here at 16 mpg.

Come on guys, winter can't make that much difference. Not for me anyway, we don't have winter here.

i thought cold weather improved gas mileage. cold air compresses better, using less gas.

hence, why people add cold air intakes to their vehicles

most cold weather states use a higher blend of alcohol, since it takes more alcohol to achieve the heat as gasoline it requires more fuel.

Colder temperatures are accompanied by lower mileage for the simple fact it needs a richer mixture.
I only loose at little over 10% on my actual according to OTIS.
It's my average that really sucks in the winter due to warming up the motor for a minute or 2. Idling the odd time to keep the passengers warm. Playing in the snow and driving in the snow I'm sure hurts mpg.

Block heater improves warm up. Oil and water warm up sooner.

Winter is cold. The colder the air the better the mix you get as far as air to fuel ratio. My 96 with the 3.5 gets 32mpg at 55mph and it has a bad EGR valve with almost 157K on it. I just did a lot of work on it and I come to find out that the oil breather puts oil into your intake and gums the hell out of it. I polished the intake manifold and plenum and bored to the TBI's to 70mm. Talk about power gain. It runs so much better now. Try that. Or check your air filter and housing. I have a cold air intake from procarparts.com for a 1992 Honda Civic. Works great and is cheaper than buying one for and intrepid. Good luck.

Maybe one (or more) of the catalytic converters are shot..that would make it feel like a restriction in the exhaust. I had a Capri that had a clogged cat, and the thing would barely get up to 55MPH...there is a way to test for this, it involves checking engine vacuum at idle and under load. I'm not sure of the specifics, but I'm sure it's online somewhere...(isn't everything??)
