Throttle position sensor troubles....

Well, i gotta let this frustration out. I just came back from my dealer TELLING HIM that there was someting wrong with the throttle position sensor and they still charged me for finding the problem i KNEW ($101.95) (if anyone knows, the code P0123). Then after he told me that, he said the job was $298 in total. For a second i though he was going to charge me that AND the insepection. He finally said that the insepction charge will go under as part of the job, so now i have to pay $200. (had to pay $100 up front)

What i dont understand is how the hell does putting in a new throttle position sensor so fuckin expensive! $300 for a stupid computerized piece. BTW, they didnt have the part, so now i have to go bring it in tomorrow (thats when i gotta pay the other $200). i know the throttle is in an awkward place, but still $300?!!

Im guessing the sensor will be no more than.....$100 (<-at dealer....$10 at some parts store), so $200 of labour?
They've gotten to comfy with me....they know its not my car but i still have to pay for repairs (since i drive it everyday)...PLUS, this all happened AFTER a damn tune up which they must have fucked it up themselves cleaning the throttle body. They dont listen to 17 y/o punks...until they end up with a lot of scratched up cars.

Sorry with all the swearing...soo pissed right now. This will be the LAST time going to this dealer unless my A/C acts up again (good ol' $1100 charge).

So much for my plans of putting in an aftermarket sound system for christmas...guess ill have to keep the old factory cd player.

Ps. thatll be me tomorrow AFTER the repairs are done oh and its all Canadian money

if it all started after they did a tune up, tell them that... dont just bend over and take it, you have to stand up for yourself - talk to a manager, keep going up the "chain of command" if you have to! if they screwed up your car, you shouldnt have to pay for it

R&R the TPS is a 10 minute job or less. I've done it on my 92 Caravan 3.3L and 95 LHS 3.5L. Same TPS on both. Just need a Torx screwdriver. Cost about $70/80 USD at dealer. Just my $0.02.

I agree thats pretty expensive, I would charge 1.5 hours labor, 68 diagnosis and 34 repair, however my remorse for you quit after the last comment, maybe they dont listen to a bunch of 17 year old punks because they are just that.

The dealer is probably following the FSM, which calls for removal of the upper plenum. No wonder it's so expensive ... :(

By the way, forgot to say that its tax included, and being up here in ontario with PST and GST, that puts approx $45 onto the price tag. If they really did do a thorough inspection and do replace the sensor properly, then i guess its worth the damn $298 (stupid taxes). At least these people should know what they're doing, unlike some mechanics who work on a car like this once in a blue moon aka. my 17 y/o mechanic friend.

What there book states on exact proper procedure (which is usually higher hours and a lot of useless removal of items just to make it easier for mech and more money for job) They charge you for those set hours even if it took tem minutes to do a per say manual stated 1.5 hour job. This is why I am selling my Trep come april (when I am suppose to receive the next Acura RL loaded ($69,500 before taxes and etc...)shipped...black on black or silver on black) because of mainly (I work for DC and been in repairs for years and have my own shop at home based garage as many know) 9of the DEALERS ARROGANCE and the uselessness of DC customer support. Exactly over this issue of the 2001 NEON ($33,000 NEON) at 27,718 KMs blown clutch of my fiance's who has driven standard for 16 years (last ten brand new Honda Prelude 188,000KMs and still going today as we know the new owner well. Thant car had a shit kicking whereas the neon R/T has always been her and at 4 months prego on the highway just stopped working (the clutch) and the concern (thank god not dead of winter in nowhereland) DC roadside took over 42 minutes to answer service call for tow to dealer and tow truck took over another hour+. She couldn't walk in her condition and thank GOD it wasn't freezing out or unborn FIRST child and her would probably have perished...YET they could give 2 shits!. So TREP is gone once I get the call from the ACURA dealer 2 hours away to test and see before I sign not till april as they are all sold out till then. Next once I HAVE to do the clutch in the neon it's up for sale and she swears (also works at DC) to go back to her ol' faithfull Honda...IT PAINS us but this is the expectations of DC to regular customers yet usually worse for their own EMPLOYEE's as we have all known before. Take Care SORRY my 34 year old (no teenager) .02 cents...

They charged me a hour of labour, and the part was of course 98$. so with taxes and that, $203 total.

As for STBEAR, sorry to hear about your problems. I have never used any kind of 24 hour service care, (i will eventually), and i know that DC has a shitty one. The only thing i hate about dealers is that they charge 97$ an hour, and my dealer is really tired of me too. THey act as if these cars should have ZERO problems, and act so suprised when i bring it in. Makes me wanna grab the guy behind the counter and tell him to fix my problem without bullshit.

As for DC products, I've noticed that they spare no expense to keep costs down as much as possible. Leads to cheaply made products. My friend wanted to buy an SRT-4, but his father (who is a technician for mopar), told him that the engines are complete garbage. So now he's going to go buy a 1.8TDI (eitehr a jetta or golf).

Oh as for you buying a new Acrua RL, i dont mind them BUT its just that they REALLY REALLY remind me of a Caddillac catera from the front bumper to the trunk and a Pontiac G6 rear lights. Anyways, congrats on the purchase, my aunt purchased a TL (01) and its been flawless with them (other than having to replace 4 foglights which kept breaking on the highway).
