Cold Cathodes

I am thinking about adding a couple of these to my car. But I know they are for computers and not for cars. So is their a special way to wire these or do I have to buy a special adapter. Please let me know how you have yours wired? And what I need to buy?

Wow...finally something i know about...!!!!!!! well (in the expert voice lol)...actually they are wired up quite easily...ground wire, power wire (usually 12v) which are connected to the car via a inverter....

Whats the difference between the dual kit and the single kit?

they give you more cathodes so to make it brighter...i say go with the dual because one cathode is enough to light one floor so by going with the dual kit you get two cathodes in a box, which when you get two dual kits you have enough to do both front and rear floors.


So go with dual kits (x2).

So let me get this straight. I should order the dual kit. I will get 4 Cathodes or 2 Cathodes?

lol yea you want to order 2 dual kits because each dual kit comes with 2 cathodes, so by gettin 2 dual kits you get 4 cathodes. Which will light up before floors in the front and rear.

Thanks. Now all i need is help wit the wiring. Should i wire them in series or parallel? And how inventer would i get. I assume 2. So 2 lights would go on 1 inventer. Right?

Cold cathodes are NOT meant for cars, too much vibration damages them.

Speak for youself, my cathodes have been in my car for months have have had no problems...you think that computers dont vibrate? Besides where in your car will there be enough vibration to damage the cathode?

Heres the diagram i wrote up after i finished my install which i was gonna put in the How-to i was gonna write up but i never got a chance to because my car died on me so i had no motivation to do it...either way here ya go any questions you can pm or whatever...if you get em and still need help i will give ya my cell number.

Holy shit those are bright in the pictures on that company's website. Dude if they are really that nice, and can be hidden from being in direct view of the passengers then I will be all over these. Can you get some zoomed out pictures, like the one they use on their webpage, of your interrior at night (prefferably so that the actual cathode tube isn't visible). That would be sweet and no need to rush, I won't be getting any more shit for the car until at least february.

Yea they actually are bright as hell....not too bright though...well mine may be because although they arent obviously place it dont have them fully concealed either (preference...although i may change it later)...but yea you can hid them really easily and it will probably take some of the light away (but i say again that they are bright as hell)..cuz ima help Ray with putting his in and he wants to hid his...but yea i will take some pics of it...although the picture doesnt really do it justice....but i will get some when i get my car back this weekend..Really easy to install too...hope the diagram helps.

A cold cathode means that the cathode operates cold, the negative end of an electrical connection, the positive is an Anode I believe.

A cold cathode is still a neon light, the ones for cars are also cold cathode (most of em I believe) but are just commonly referred to 'neons' as it is easy to say I suppose.

of course neon comes from neon being the gas used in some lights but they also use different gasses for different colors and are unlike fluorescent lights that use mercury and a phosphorus coating on the inside of the light that when struck by the electrons (or whatever) produces visible light

as I understand it, in a Neon the electrical current passes through whichever gas happens to be inside the tube and the electricity goes through the cathode -- the gass -- and exits the gas into the anode and with any electrical connection the cathode is usually where the heat would build up making a cold cathode (however it is accomplished) an important thing to note.

even thought I don't know what i'm talking about I like typing stuff.
