Sad Please help answer a few questions!

I've got three probs with my 98 Intrepid and wonder if a novice mechanic can fix himself or should be taken to dealer?
1.Drivers side mirror is cracked! Can I replace just the glass or do I need the entire mirror?
2.Yesterday the cable that opens the hood snapped on me when I pulled the release! It's not visible anymore and I cannot open the hood!
3.The dash lights are out and I cannot see speedometer at night! Do I have to remove dash and steering wheel?
Thanks for any replies!

1. Yes, the whole mirror needs to be replaced
2. Sounds like you'll need the whole cable
2. Have you tried the dimmer wheel on the headlight switch?

2.Figured that, but is there a way in so I can fix it, get into engine bay, versus dealership?
3.Yes...checked the ovious (dimmer, fuses)

Thanks....more replies please for #2 and #3!

2. jack it up, find the cable going to the hood, and yank on it with channel locks. Replace the whole cable.

1) No, you DON'T need to replace the whole mirror, you can just go to an autoglass shop and they can put new glass in for you. TRUST me, I went down to Apple Autoglass when mine got cracked and they put a new piece of glass in for $25.

.......either that or you can buy a mint condition mirror off of me :p I have a few extras

Yeah, I was PLANNING on offering it to you for $25US, but it's difficult for me to ship to you. Probably $10-$15 shipping

I didn't know places like that did that, that's a good thing to know. I was basing my response on when Randy changed his mirrors to MUTH mirrors and he cracked the original glass when he pulled it off. I stand corrected

I have wondered about something, do the heated mirrors still warm up if you apply the new mirror pane over the old one and apply it with somethjing like epoxy?

I believe all LH mirrors are heated, right?

Or you can just go to a junkyard and get a new mirror assembly, I replaced my driver side one for only $40. Pretty easy to install yourself too.
