Exclamation ATTN: Black headlight on a Intrepid (pics!)

As some of you remember I dug up a Intrepid headlight and made it into JDM style as some call it, none-the-less here's the black headlight on a 2001 Intrepid.

Compare:

Side:

Clear corner:

This lamp is fully functiional and only one is exitance. The plastic has aged, I tried to sand it and buff it and it looks decent. If anyone feels that they can pull this off on their own I'll sell you this lamp and all you need is a RH lamp to complete the set. I plan on making more but once it gets warmer, things tend to dry much nicely in the summer sun.

Questions, comments, concerns please address them.

Luke

The headlight used as an example looks to be pretty clouded over to me..

I can't really tell how it looks by those pictures.

close up. I cant seem to find a product that can clean lenses well after having thme wet-sanded. I use various plastic polishes but they work on clean lamps.

Maybe they'd look alright on a black car.

Not that impressive

I don't think thats an accurate statement. You can't tell shit about how it actually looks in person and how it would look on a headlight in better condition. Between the haziness and the glare I don't think those pictures really tell us much. Luke could you try to take a picture at an angle so you don't have as much of a glare?

I agree with you guys. The lamp I had to work with was not the best, but it served the purpose to show that the intrepid lamp can successfully be taken apart and put back. I'll swap the lamp again over this weekend and clean it and take other pics. Plus I think this will look much better on a silver, red or possibly black car.

What grit did you wet sand with? You'll probably have to finish sand with something in the 2500-3000 grit range before going to a plastic polish for the final touch. But you should be able to clear that lense up with some elbow grease and have a much better example of your work. I'm very interested in the mod, but I just can't get a good view to see if what you did is exactly what I have/had in mind doing...

I usually use 2000 at the end. I posted a how-to and as I said before I just set a example for anyone who wants to tackle this modification. There's nothing else that I can do visual affect wise, so I open it up to anyone else to take it from here and get something interesting going, HIDs maybe.

I like that you guys are honest, this will only make me try to set my benchmark higher.

Dont worry guys I'll figure something out!

Well, for what we can see, it doesn't look bad. I mean, I understand that you used some "damaged" headlamps instead of new ones, just in case "something" would have happened. I like the idea and I like what I see, so until you fix this, good work!!

:( the car in your pics is the same color as mine.

Personally I totally dig the black on that color, if the AVS blackouts weren't so easy to steal and didn't kill your headlight effectiveness then I'd keep em on all the time. Did you use a glossy black paint in there with clear coat or what?

SkuBy: Your best bet is to get a set of BRAND NEW headlights, and then do this mod to them. With that finished product, it would look much better , and you would get better positive responses. Other than that. Great job!
