The biggest bang you'll hear is the transmission disintegrating. Just my $0.02.

Several people here run nos on their intrepids, and as far as I have heard nobody has blown up their transmission with it.

Obviously if you get a big enough shot, you can blow up just about anything.

Can you use nitrous on stock engine, I think you might even have to probably get better pistons, connecting rods, camshaft and other upgrades. Not sure however, that is what I have heard from others who have NOS

If Chrysler thought that the 42LE design could take a lot of abuse they would have used the rear drive version in the new and ugly 300 hemi. They use the Mercedes tranny instead because the 42RE cannot take the hemi's torque.

I have no idea how much extra torque a nos system would provide in a LH application but it sure won't do the 42LE any good. Just my $0.02.

The more conventional approach is a custom intake (like the J-Intake) to get more air/fuel into the engine, and an aftermarket exhaust to get the combustion gases out. I've done the former (and noticed some increased pep, especially at higher RPMs) but not the latter.

I'm also thinking about the Kenne Bell Optimizer II (i.e. computer) but haven't quite convinced myself that the $349 is worth it. Why don't you try it and let me know.

There have been more than a few Intrepids on here that have run small shots of nitrous effectively 50 shot or under. I know there have been a few Intrepids that have eventually wrecked transmissions/engines with larger shots. Personally unless you can afford some hefty repair bills I would advise against nitrous.

Things people have done to increase performance:
New intake
Underdrive pulley
New diff gearing
Kenne Belle optimizer
New Exhaust
Remove weight from the car (spare, AC, etc...)
Install a 3.5 HO engine

All of the above are debateable as to how effective they are and some may actually slow the car down.

Probably one of the better members to talk to would be DScruggs who probably has the fastest naturally aspirited LH cars (no turbo or NOS)

The biggest bang for the buck without a doubt is "SE" (3.89:1) differential gears. They run ~$80 new and you can swap 'em out in your driveway. Not a huge increase (+6.5%) in performance but not a huge price, either. Of course your highway mileage will go down a similar amount and your speedo will be off a little.

After that, a cone intake works good for a 3.2L since you've already got a stock over-sized exhaust. Or simply buy a K&N drop-in filter (~$50) for the stock air box and cut an extra 2.5" hole in the bottom front edge of the box (put a screen over it to keep the bugs out!). If you can spend a little more get one of JoeKD's J-Intake kits. Great tubing and will add a little kick!

Kenne-Bell chip would be next ...

'72 RoadRunner . '02 R/T . '12 Charger SE

.

3" Exhaust - sound files
Dyno runs

For a unique performace set up for around $600-$900 just get a custom full cold air intake kit(have to relocate the battery) and a header-back exhaust. Nos is alwayls cool unless you can go supercharged theres a kit for around $3500
