Glasspack whistling

Just had local auto shop install a short glasspack muffler(do not know manufacturer) on my 98 2.7 concorde with 78k

removed the resonator and the original muffler.

The glasspack sounds good at some rpms and lousy at other. at low rpms(1200-1500) is makes a strange whistling sound. At other times it isn't present. Is this just the effect of sound traveling, different barriers and buffetings around cars or is it an inherent issue with glasspack mufflers?
Have others experienced this high pitched whisitling sound?

The job cost $200 and I'm not fully satisfied. Is a complaint(about the whistling) to the installer worth it?

Thx Greg

Of course go complain if you are not satisfied with the quality of his work.

Don't think the installer will do anything about whistling if all of the connections/welds?
are sound. That's the work he did. Did they sell you the no-name glasspack? Usually they're so no-restriction inside, but it's hard to tell what's causing the sound.

$200!?

Good grief, I wish you would of given me the money. You can get a brand new stainless steel Magnaflow muffler or a Flowmaster muffler for $40 shipped off ebay, and then most muffler shops charge only $25 to put it on & that includes removing the resonator.

If you have any more money to blow, give it to me & I'll give you the best tips. And that goes for the rest of you suckers. Ha! Ha! Ha!

Take it back to the shop and have them check their welds to make sure they're good. They may have also loosened up an existing connection farther up the pipe - have them check that, too. If all is good with the install then it's just the way the muffler is designed. The good news is that most glass packs will "adjust" themselves over a period of 1-2 months ...
