Question gas treatments.. are they useful?

Are gas treatments necessary for regular use? People have told me they pour in a gas treatment every few fill ups and they the stuff is excellent for there vehicles. I'm skeptical, my car seems to run fine withought any gas additives.

If you think that your car runs fine... then why bother to waste your money?

If you use name brand gas you can get by with a shot of fuel injectron cleaner once or twice a year. If you use "Gas for less" type fuel ,then you might want to add some cleaner because you have no idea what additive package is in the gas. Some of the independent terminals use some rot gut additive in their fuel. I know because I've done tank gauging work in some of the independent terminals and the last gas i would put in a fuel injected car is the stuff they sold. Just my $0.02. :smileyb:

A good rule of thumb (whatever the heck that saying means) is to add a can of fuel injector cleaner to a full tank of gas every time you change your oil. I've been doing it for years and never had any problems with my injectors.

In the winter months, especially if you keep less than a half tank of gas in your car, there is the problem of moisture and condensation building up in your tank. A bottle of dry gas every month or two keeps that in check.

I also add a bottle of fuel injector cleaner to a full tank of gas after every oil change. Every now and than instead of a bottle of fuel injector cleaner, I will use a bottle of fuel system cleaner. The fuel system cleaner cleans more than just the fuel injectors, but also costs more.

That reminds me, I just had an oil change done. I guess I need to run to Advance Auto and pick up a bottle of fuel injector cleaner.

Post-ho'in tonight:

So after each Mobil1 change I drop in a 20oz bottle of Chevron Techron. 4 bots for 9.99 at Costco.

Our rides only get 93oct Amoco or Mobil ...this is the same car pictured below that produces F/P whines during the colder months. Go figure.

About 40K on the OEM Champion plugs. Smooth Idle.

Thank goodness for MTX and Bazooka!
