Magnets have been used for a long time to trap metal particles in oil pans, tranny pans, etc. Lots of people just stick one on the bottom of the oil pain, or they make magnetic drain plugs that do a similar thing. This one is nice though as it will help keep those particles from cloging your filter as long as it doesn't restrict flow into the filter...

I'd rather have the magnet units that are on the sides of the filter over being between the filter, mainly for a space issue but also cause the filings and such are kept in the filter and easily tossed when you do an oil change.

You would need to be getting alot of 'wear' for the oil pan and tranny plug magnets not to catch it.

I would catagorize this as "nifty" makes sense but prob isnt worth the $ if you are getting that much metal in the oil you have a bigger problem that needs to be dealt with.

Dang! If you are getting metal particles in your oil, soon there will be no engine left over.. LoLoL.
I mean, I could understand maybe 1 thousandth of a gram per year (?) but enuf to warrant the oil filter magnet. LoL.

I'm sure ricers will have the stickers of this product soon on their window.

While this is all well and good, what about our all aluminum blocks and heads? Also, bearing material is non-ferrous, so it's not going to get caught by a magnet either. If you're getting iron based materials floating in the pan, than you've most likely got some other serious issues to deal with! I'll hang on to my cash...
