i have the exact same problem in the morning, when i turn them on from a cold start they move an inch up and stop. 2-4 minutes later they come on in a series of 3 wipes.

The question is to you, when does this happen? when you start the car for the first few minutes, or even when the car is fully heated. With me, it only occurs when the car temp is below the 2nd notch. Im starting to believe that its temperature related, but its more likely a motor problem.

Mine do that from time to time. It seems to happen more often when its cold outside. I haven't really benn keeping track of when it happens and what temp it is outside. usually after the wipers have been run at slow or fast for a minute or two, the delay option seems to work fine. And even if I don't turn them to slow or fast, they'll move up an inch, sit there a few minutes, wipe 2 or 3 times then seem to be fine after all that. I have heard that the BCM controls the delay option and that is where the problem is happening. I don't know for fact just passing along what I've heard.

Your problem is in the multi-function switch more than likely. They suck on these cars...

doubt its in the switch. if there was a prob in the switch then it wouldn't start the wipers at all. the switch seems fine since the wipers do start when its turned on. I'm not too familiar with the BCM, so originally I was thinking it was probably an issue with the park switch in the motor. but since there is never any issue with slow and fast speeds, just the delay settings, I'm inclined to agree with other posted about the BCM.

I really doubt that its a problem with the BCM. I mean, I'm not going to completely rule the possibility out, but there have been similar problems posted on here, who's direct culprit was usually the motor or the switch itself. Not only that, but the BCM is a very expensive place to start the troubleshooting.

Hmm, well I don't know about the thing with the signals but the other problems ...

Are you guys having problems mostly when it's cold out or wet/rainy? If so, then it could be the wiper relay. My '96 Concorde had this problem - every time it was cold out (condensation) and when it rained the intermittent wipers wouldn't work right. Over several months this problem got worse until they just quite on me in the middle of a storm! I took it to the dealer and they - of course - couldn't duplicate the problem. So I told them to put it in their wash bay and blow water through the radiator with the car running! That did the trick and they chased it down to the wiper relay. Seems the relay seal had gone bad and was letting a small amount of moisture inside the relay.

So, swap out the wiper relay - I think it's the same as all the other relays up there - and see if you still have a problem. You might save yourself the $60 repair bill that it cost me for a $3 relay ...

hey unless the thing completely dies or pisses me off I ain't bothering with it. I've seen posts saying the stalk (switch), the BCM, the wiper motor, the relay, the wiring. Just about anything involved. I'm just thinking about it logically. If it were a problem with the park switch in the motor, then the wipers wouldn't start moving when turned to slow or fast after popping up an inch on delay. So I'd say the motor could be ruled out. Now it seeems like the stalk (switch) sent a pulse to start the wipers in the first place when they just pop up an inch and stop. Because of that, I think I'd rule out the stalk (switch) also. Which leaves us with the relay(s), wiring, and the BCM. Now, I tried swapping the one relay I found under the hood with another one and it didn't change anything. But i read that there are two, one for the fast/slow operation and one for the delay. I haven't seen one for the delay. I can rule out the relay that I did find. So I've got the wiring, this relay I haven't found (if there is one) and the BCM. Seeing how this problem seems to eventually correct itself, I'm kinda shading away from any wiring problems. Are you with me so far?? Now, if there is a relay for the delay option and it suddenly loses power or connection to the wipers, then I can see how they would start and stop abruptly. Does anyone know if there are 2 separate relays for the wipers, one for slow/fast and one for delay??? and if there isn't, then it takes me back to the BCM again.
A word of advise my dad used to tell me: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
I can't tell you how many times I shoulda listened!!!

I don't know if it's an issue for the 2G's or not ... my problem was with a '96 Concorde. But according to the 2002 FSM there are two wiper relays - one for high/low and one for on/off. They are both located in the PDC and are about 4 relays apart.

For the 1G guys my '96 FSM also shows 2 wiper relays - one for high/low and the other for intermittent. They are located next to each other in the PDC.

Ahh, thanks for the update on that D76G12. I will have to look again. When I went looking before, I found one for the wipers and looked no further. I will check again when weather permits.
