Headlight Rant

I figure this is as good a place as any to complain.

My original factory headlights (9007 bulb) lasted 8.5 years.
Only the driver side went out, but I alwys replace in pairs when that old plus I wanted a better bulb.

I bought the better bulbs at the part store.
A week later, the low-beam portion went out.
No biggie, they swapped it out no problem.

1 1/2 years later (This past week), the driver side low-beam burnt out again. (Third time on that side now.)
Grabbed the one good 10 year old bulb from the original and all is good.

You think that these bulbs would last.
I can understand that they can get bounced around during shipment and stuff, but this is stupid...

I feel better now...

Ooops, picked the wrong General one and can't move it. My bad...

Did you by any chance wipe the bulb off with an alcohol pad before installing?

Even the tiniest bit of finger oils will cause a bulb to crack in just a few hours.

I always make sure that nothing touches the lenses.
In fact, some of the ones I've seen come rapped in something to prevent it.

They did last 1 1/2 years on the replacement set.
I did notice that the silver painted on tip was partially flaked off.

No biggie I guess.
I just figured paying $15 a bulb would last compared to the $7 OEM bulb.
The 10 year old buld looked in better condition when I pulled it out from the box I stored it in.

I forget the brand was a xenon street legal 65/55 watt bulb.
You know the ones that claim they have HID type brightness.

Perhaps when the other newer one goes, I'll pick up the silverstar's.

Doesn't seem to be many options with the older Concorde's with the combo 9007 bulbs. and I don't plan on throwing money into a real HID setup.

I just want to see at night.
Perhaps I will install some fog lights to assist or something...

Thanks though...

I know that, but the ratio is kinda' terrible.
They weren't that much better.
Twice the price, 1/6th the life.

But, since the G1's had terrible lighting to begin with, anything was better.

My 10 year old bulb works fine, so I'm just gonna' stick with it until I need to replace it.
