22pin radio connector Pins...need help

Im working on my RB1 and i want to make sure the pins are correct.

Its a 22 pin connector.

From the service manual i found the following
pin 11- ground
pin 12 - 12v all the time
pin 2 - ignition (12V) = radio on

Is there anything else it would need to run on the bench? Its connected to a regulated 12V for now.

Thanks,
Ciprian

i want to setup a small speaker as well, would a pc speaker be ok directly setup to the 66W rb1.

I need some clues on that as well since im not sure how functional this unit is... it seems to play the disc, not sure about the sound and i want to bench test it before it goes in the car.

Thanks in advance

So you got an RB1?? Lucky you!!!! I bet yo ugot a great deal too. Anyway, all you should need are those 3 wires you've got listed. I don't have any experience with the RB1 but I imagine it will have limited functionality without being connected to the PCI bus. Those 3 should be enough to get it to power on the bench though and I can't see any reason why anything other than navigation would be affected by the lack of a PCI bus signal. You can connect any 4ohm speaker, just be sure it can handle the output of the RB1 so you don't cook it. Also, I'm not sure if you have some kind of harness or something you are plugging into the back of the unit, but be careful if you're just connecting test leads to it as the pins are very close together and it is not difficult at all to short the wires.

ya im using wires that where heat shrunk ... they're pretty safe so far. The pins are pretty far apart.

YA i got a great deal on it, the screen doesnt work but ill get that soon fixed. I just want to see if its just the screen then i can safely order it. The odd thing is i have to blindly go through the controls.

About the speaker any speaker will work??? like an old pc speaker ? when u say cook do u mean the rb1 or the speaker (the rb1 is more important to me).

The PCI bus just has the navi all messed up but the radio, cd and others should work fine on the bench, thats what im really after. If the others work the navi will also.

Thanks for the Help, its very much appreciated.

The only thing that the PCI bus really handles is the movement stuff. The Nav itself should work okay without that connection, you just would not get updates to the route, turn by turn, and things of that nature. The actual map generation and things of that nature should work fine without it, but that stuff wouldn't matter anyway since you said the screen doesn't work. Are you just testing to see if the unit is reading discs properly? THat should be easy enough...just pop a CD in puch the cd button and see if it plays.

As long as the speaker is 4ohm, the current won't be high enough to damage the RB1. If you use a speaker thats not capable of handling much power than you have the potential to blow it but as long as its 4ohm like I said, you don't have to worry about the RB1. BTW, if you come across any more damaged RB1s, let me know. I haven't had to bust out my soldering iron in awhile and I could use a new project!

Man you should have said something though...I would have held onto it. It would have been better than Mr.CD1 buying it from me so he can turn a profit at my expense!

me too,,, mine was a lot less than 700$ (A LOT)

ya the nav should work, but no screen, antenna or nav DVD LOL.. BUt the electronics in this car are really clean. No burning or anything, i used some freeze spary to see if there are any moving parts.

2 Voltage regulators were gone so that was first.. on the Dc supply.

Im really dumb when it comes to sound. Where would i be able to get a 4ohm speaker? I have an old speaker 6x9 from my 92 boneviille (similar to the trep rear speakers) would that work?? i ll get some specs on it tomorrow its in the garage. I have to find out which pins it connects to as well.

I had a music cd in it, it loads at start and then do i have to press cd function?? the cd stops after boot up and then it doesnt start up whatever i press.

I have the 2 power lines, do i need anymore, it seems that once the initial power is provided the cd is spun around and then it all stops, it allows the cd to be removed and the leds work HEHE... (on the front face).

hmmm...I have not ever put anything but a nav disc in mine. I don't have any speakers connected to it, so there has not ever been a need. I will put a CD in for ya and let you know what I see on the screen, that might help you a little.

its odd because with a blank dvd it keeps on spinning and stops, starts again. But with a music cd it just spins to speed and beeps quietly for a sec, then it slows down.

Ross was telling me the RB1 plays cds as well, but of course with nav off. I just dont have a nav disc so i need to try the music with a small speaker to test it then ill move to the fiberglass on the mounts and supports. otherwise my unit is intact...

Just some minor scratches on the face, ill live with it after my buffing.

Thanks for the help Caleb, i need someone with an RB1 with this advice. I kept step by step pics so ppl can fix them in the future and maybe save an RB1 from mrcdick
