Atoring wheels and tires.

I will be stacking all four up with some covering over them to keep things off the Chrome finish. Then covering with a tarp.

Do I need to inflate or deflate the tires beyond normal pressure? Or leave them be.

Will the cold (20-30) kill the finish or rubber?

Just like you said, clean and polish them up real nice, cover them up and they'll be fine in the spring! Shouldn't be any pitting or marring on the chrome as long as you keep them away from moisture. As for the air pressure, it doesn't really matter, but they will certainly lose quite a few psi's on their own just from sitting... I'd just let them go as is.

Here's another link you may find useful on storing tires.

I have always stored my rims in individual bags sealed up with a few dryer sheets to help absorb moisture. The black jobber style trash bags work great and have room to tie even with a 245/45/17 rim/tire combo in them

Clean them VERY thoroughly but do not apply any tire shine to them before sealing them in the bags

For the past two years I've done the summer/winter thing. What I do is clean the rim and rubber good, polish the wheels, than stack them on a big tarp, than cover the stack with the rest of the tarp. I have cardboard cut outs that I put on top of each rim to protect it. I than put something on top of the tarp to prevent it from blowing off when the garage door opens.

What do you guys recommend for cleaning rubber of the tires?

I will probably use some car wash soap and then cleaner/polish/wax the wheels.

does it really matter how they are stored? don't you drive in the rain during the summer? isn't the same amount of air in them all summer long? does the cold kill the rubber in your winter tires?

Ummm....no. That's why you got to check the air pressure and fill them up accordingly. In fact, I think mine could you a little air.
