Angry Well, it finally happened....

BAM! I finally got nailed for not having a front license plate on my car. (it's been at least 2 1/2 years since I put my 1997 bumper on).

See that! $2.61/month if you break it down is still not bad for breaking the law though ;)

Check out the quote in my sig... I'm in the same boat!

Yeah, we're not allowed any window tint, but at least we only have to wear 1 plate in PA

Yeah, well I get to have tint, so I guess that's good. I also have tinted tails, which he didn't say anything about. Still. That's my first ever ticket, and I really like my car better without the front plate.

Isn't it a fix it ticket? Just put it on, go to the police station and show them, then go home and take it off.

I've been stopped twice over the 16 years that I've been driving in Ohio which is a 2 plate state. The first time I got pissy with the cop because I was only doing 2 over and so he started making a list of infractions starting with the front plate. The second time I got stopped I told him I was doing some work on the car and that the broken plate holder was in the trunk if he wanted to see it (it really wasn't, I'm glad he didn't call my bluff) and he said that's ok, just get it fixed. That was a while ago, I'm hoping he forgot about me. But 1 ticket in 16 years isn't that bad.

Good news is, there's actually some guy fighting in the Ohio supreme court for the last year to change the laws about Ohio being a 2 plate state.

The title of this thread had me worried... I thought the motor blew or you were in an accident or something. Don't do that to us!

Never understood the two plate states. What is it, other than a waste of tax dollars?

lol gaze. Sorry, didn't mean to worry ya. Don't think my engine's in any danger, but let's hope we keep the accident gods happy ;)

I looked up the part of the Highway Traffic Act that I "violated".

7. (1) No person shall drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless:
(b) There are displayed on the vehicle, in a prescribed manner,
(i) Number plates issued in accordance with the regulations showing the number of the permit issued for that vehicle

The prescribed manner in accordance with the regulations is not expanded upon. Nowhere does it actually say I need to have TWO plates. grrr

King: my 97 bumper came from Michigan (a one-plate state), so it didn't have the plate holder or even holes. And it looks so purdy. So. last night a friend and I swapped it and put my factory one back on. (I managed to run over my hair while I was on the creeper, necessitating emergency hair surgery with a rusty razor blade, but that's another story.)

Yep Im going down to the police station today to show them, then when I get brave again (maybe after winter's over) I'll just swap it back. After all, as Bus pointed out, it's just over $2 a month to have it on there ;)

I still fail to see why a cop would give someone like Angela a ticket? I just figured Angela could get out of any ticket just by looking innocent.

I think the two plate thing is just a way to collect money when they feel like it or want to stop you. In NJ the law states something to the effect that the number of plates issued is the number of plates that need to be displayed.

If NJ only required one plate and my plate holder didn't trap dirt/sand thereby making little scratches all behind it I would go with just the rear. But the scratches and more importantly the satisfaction of knowing cops can't mess with me for violating any statutes etc is more important to me. Every now and then I get a cop eyeballing me and in my mind they looking for some reason to mess with me but they have none unless of course they make it up.

BTW: Couldn't you get around it by putting the plate in the windshield?

I too live in SC but got pulled for a very lightly tinted plate cover no ticket just was told to take it off (no clue why autozone sells them if you can't use them) and when I lived in Ohio I got pulled for no front tag but same thing no ticket just told to put it back on.
