Shipping wheels and tires, how?

Will a 225/55/17 tire mounted on a 17x7 rim fit into a box for some 20"rims?

Why box it at all? All the big carriers let you ship just by taping cardboard over both sides and leave the tread exposed

The answer is no assuming that the box that the 20" rims came in is just big enough for the 20" rims.

The overall diameter of the tires+wheel mentioned is 25.86" according to this website.

i would just ship them how they come packaged, the tires can be shipped on a freight truck just how they are with no boxes or anything, the rims would be fine in just the boxes they come in, on a pallet shrink wrapped

YES you can ship wheels with tires mounted on them that way. I've received wheels/tires with just the cardboard discs taped to both sides. Saves finding/buying boxes to ship.

Something to consider is that cardboard is abrasive and might scuff up a highly polished rim... all the Polished Aluminum Truck rims we get come in a cloth bag inside the box... (I found out the hard way when I mounted a tire on one by laying it on the inside of a ripped open box... scratched the HELL out of the rim face.)
