Rotating tires

I will take my wheels off for the winter, however that will be way before the tires need to be rotated. I believe I need to mark the tires and then remount them the way they were while on the car before taking them off.

I presume it is very important to remount them the way they were?

I will take the tires to Discount Tire Co. to get the wheels roated, but how do they rotate them? Front to back or side to side then back?

Rotation depends on the tire itself, most are just front to back

If discount does them for free let them handle it, otherwise do it yourself, just pull them off the car yourself (give them a good clean since they are off) and put them back on in the new locations

I use winters as well. I usually do an X pattern first so FL to RR, FR to RL ect. Then next time i move in a circle then X again. Gets the tires to every position. Winters just go back to front for me since they are directional tire tread.

for FWD cars, you're supposed to go front to back and do the rears to the opposite sides on the frint, but most places just do front to back

I rotate my non directionals like Apcsox says.
For winter swapping I mark the tires for where they will go when reinstalled.

LF gets a LR marking
RF gets a RR marking
LR gets a FR marking
RR gets a FL marking.
