Replacing Lifters

Newbie here and I would like some information on cost and time of replacing lifters on my sons 95 3.5l Trep. I am a DIY and if I can do it to save cost then that's the avenue I would like to go. Any help from any and all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It involves removal of the upper plenum, spark plug wires, and valve covers. The rocker arms have hydraulic lash adjusters on them which would be considered the lifters. Set at top dead center on #1, remove the rocker shaft bolts, and rocker shaft/arm assemblies. Then its a matter of sliding each arm off of the shafts and replacing. You cannot turn them upside down, and they have to be soaked in oil before re-installing.

I would say about 4 hours total. Rockers run about $30 each, (different price for intake and exhaust give or take) so if you only have one or two bad ones its cheaper just to replace those. You will have the cost of valve cover gaskets and intake plenum gaskets too. Maybe another $30 with sealant and all.

There was a TSB with new torque specs for 3.5L 1995 LH veh's - the rocker arm shaft retaining bolt - now it is 275 inch pounds. Also, here is more info on replacing the rocker amrs:

Service and Repair

1. Remove cylinder head covers as outlined under ``Cylinder Head Cover, Replace.''
2. Identify and mark rocker arm assembly and rocker arms before disassembly.
3. Remove rocker arm assembly bolts then rocker arms.
4. Check rocker arms for the following wear or damage:
1. Roller scuffing or wear.
2. Bore scuffing or wear.
3. Swivel pad on lash adjuster missing or broken.
4. Rocker arm showing signs of fatigue or cracking.
5. Roller axle protruding from arm.
5. Remove dowel pin using a 4mm screw, nut, spacer and washer installed into pin.
6. Remove rocker arms and pedestals in order.
7. Check rocker arm mounting portion of shafts for wear or damage.
8. Check oil holes for clogging with small wire, clean as required.

1. Install rocker arms and pedestals onto shaft.
2. Install dowel pins in correct locations. Dowel pins pass through pedestal into rocker shafts. Dowel pins should be pressed until they bottom out in pedestal.
3. Rotate camshaft placing lobes in a neutral position (no load on valves).
4. Install rocker arm assembly with identification marks toward front of engine.
5. Install oil feed bolt into correct location on rocker shaft retainer and tighten bolts in sequence to specification.
6. Install cylinder head covers.

 Much to my dismay, my son has elected to sell his 95 Intrepid. We figured we would start at $1000.00 obo and work from there. We are located in northern Indiana if there may be any local interest. Thanks to all who replied.
