Anyone know how to disable the door chime?

I'd like to sit in the car with the doors open and listen to music without the "ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding... ding..." Where is that little sucker? (pair of dykes in hand)
I know its probably the same "dinger" that "dings" on low feul, etc...And I know its related to the BCM, hmmm maybe I could just bybass the switches on the doors? what do ya'll think?

I know, I know... "just turn the music up" right?

i'd love to know the answer to this as well
on my buddies F-150 it was a 4 second thing, unplugged a wire under the dash and it shut off

According to "The Bible"

The Body Control Module (BCM) is concealed
below the driver side end of the instrument panel in
the passenger compartment, where it is secured to
the dash panel side of the Junction Block (JB).

The diagnostic instruction if it is NOT working is

No tone when key is left in ignition. Ignition
switch is in the OFF position and driverís door is
open.
(1) Using a DRBIIIt scan tool, check drivers door
ajar switch for good ground when driverís door is
open.
(2) Use DRBIIIt scan tool to perform PCI bus
diagnostics on BCM for battery, ignition switch input,
key-in-switch and driverís door input and Chime Output
Test.
(3) Inspect BCM connectors and wires for proper
connection.
(4) Check for battery feed at terminal J1-7 of BCM
connector.

Sooooo, I assume if you were to disconnect J1-7 of the BCM, the chime would no longer function. Unfortunately, I could not find a oic of the BCM. If I do, I'll post it.

From Allpar
http://z.about.com/d/autorepair/1/0/...ion-1_287c.gif 1998 BCM, which appears to be the fuse panel, and we know where that is. Can't locate a '99-04 pic.

Or electrical tape over the door sensor. Just make sure you do not lock your keys in your car!

I dunno if all 2nd gens are the same but my '03 does not have the classic push button switch. The door ajar switch is inside of the door lock solenoid.Assuming your '98 is the same, it would be impractical to tape over. The drivers door is the only door that operates the key-in chime. so if it was me I would find the wire ,20 gauge Tan no tracer, that goes from the BCM to the drivers door switch and connect a toggle switch to it. I'm not sure if opening the door opens or closes the circuit. If opening the door closes the circuit, then cut the Tan wire and connect the toggle switch between the two ends. If opening the door opens the circuit then connect both ends to one toggle switch terminal and connect the other toggle switch terminal to ground.Using a switch will let you enable or disable it when ever you feel like it.

Or, you can rent it for 7 days use, with all modules, cables and hookups supplied.. about $150, with air shipping back and forth.

I just either sit in the car with the windows rolled down or get outside with the windows rolled down an crank up the radio.

After 5 minutes or so the lights in the car turn off and so does the ding sound. Lights go out so battery won't die.

The switch is part of the lock. Just take a key or something and trip the lock, making it think the door is closed. You just have to remember to unlatch it before you try to shut the door.
