Charcoal Canister??

Does anybody know the exact fuction of the charcoal canister located below the pcm? And what happens when removed?

It traps fuel vapor. Not a good thing to remove.

Yeah, if you remove it, "check engine" will soon appear, you will have created a giant emissions leak, and/or damage the system if you block off the lines.

Can the charcoal canister be replaced cause im getting a check engine light for a small evaporator leak. Yes the gas cap has been replaced with no luck

It absolutely can be replaced. It may not be the cause of your problem. There are many other parts of the system that could leak and cause that code. To find it exactly, the vacuum system would have to be tested with one of those smoke machines. It could be anything from a hose to leak detection pump, purge solenoid, gas tank hose/leak, etc.
