The Evolution of My Intrepid

Before I start, It's obvious I've been doing the "Trep Thing" for a while now. If anyone has any questions about my mods or anything, feel free to PM me or reply below!

After a string of bad luck with cars, I purchased my Intrepid for $2800 in spring of 2001 because frankly I didnt have much cash to work with and it sure as hell beat walking!

I was young and a bit ricey so the following pictures from 2003 may blow your mind!

My poor decision making finally caught up to me and my car got stolen followed shortly by a loss of license for 6 months (a DUI which I deserved and I regret). When they recovered her, only the HU was missing because I had already removed the subwoofers etc for the the winter. Needless to say, when I got my license back the following spring, I had done 6 months worth of planning and saving parts.

In 2004 I grew up and developed a nice little hobby painting cars. Plus I got got a pretty decent refund check and purchased a nice little stack of goodies (wish i had a picture of this because the UPS boxes were taking up half my garage). So I decided to put my skills to good use and gave my Intrepid its first well deserved make-over:

But I eventually got sick of that Audio setup so within a couple of months I redid it again!

It was around this time that I got seriously involved with the custom scene and met a handful of people that helped me out. I joined a car club and things took off from there. That fall I had a handful of car show trophies in my posession:

Then came 2005. I was already sick of the HOK Kameleon color so I decided to go with a new shade. HOK Burple. That and a whole bunch of other mods led to a nice little stack of trophies in 2005.

Interior Modifications:
Custom “Treptech” Shifter and Boot
X-tal Custom Blue Gauges
Leather wrapped Console lid
5% Tint on Rear Windows

Kicker 3 way 6.75” front speakers
Clarion dxz835mp head unit
Sirius Satellite Radio
Fahrenheit 7.2” Monitor
Cyberhome DVD player
Ported Rear Deck

Then I got myself a set pf chrome rims halfway through the year:

At the end of 2005 I replaced the Intrepid with my Eclipse as my daily driver. The Intrepid sat and collected cobwebs for months:

But I busted her out one more time for Carlisle 2006!

As of this weekend, the Intrepid has been stripped of all the audio extras. In the next 6 months it will be undergoing another massive makeover that will include, fully shaved sides, permanent convertable, and air suspension among other things!

Step 1 in my next transformation: Strip and Store!

I spent Saturday afternoon pulling out some of the items worthy of selling and then parked my Intrepid in a garage for the winter right along side my aunt's 65 1/2 Mustang. I think they'll look nice next to one another for the better part of the winter!

Old stock wheels slapped back on before she left my carport:

And the gutted Interior:

And her new home:

I almost cried... but the future looks bright!

Very impressive history and one of the nicest Intrepid's I've ever seen, your car is a great inspiration for all of us who love them.

The shift boot was done custom by myself with some black vinyl, a sewing machine, a hot glue gun and a whole lot of trial and error.

Nice read Pat. Glad to see that you have put it up for the winter. Really looking forward to seeing it again at Carlisle. Will have to find another newbie to help get the correct wheels on it before taking it to the showfield....LOL

I wish that were the case. There's no access to a compressor at this garage... yet.

Glad to see you are still going to be working on it again! You seriously have inspired me to keep my intrepid for this long(5 years on Nov 15th!!!) and to keep on working on it. I always thought of selling mine because of the high mileage but the shit you do to yours makes me say fuck it keep it another 5 years and keep putting my little mods on! Hope it all works out for you. I really wanted to see someone do the convertible. I been thinking that would be a great idea for a long time.

Silver 2000 Intrepid ES 3.2
