I am about to remove the vibe dampner pulley from my 02 2.7 Intrepid and I was hoping for some tricks in place of the 'special tools', esp the insert that is quoted...
Would a bolt of the same size with the head cut off work?
There is a special puller used for these. Before I had it, I always used a 3 jaw puller. Does not work the greatest, but gets the job done. As far as the bolt goes, the Chrysler puller has an adapter that fits in the bolt hole. I used a bolt with the same threads as the factory one but longer so I could pull against that. Depending on how long the bolt is, you may have to back it out some as your pulling the pulley off. If you want the special puller, check out otctools.com. That is where I got mine.

autozone has them as a rental as well, they are listed for chrysler vehicles too, but i just used a 3-jaw like 32Intrepid, and install along allen bolt in the shaft, it wasnt even the same size in thickness, all you need is something to push up against, thats it, poped out like nothing, piece of cake, ;)
