Sad Another 2.7 bites the dust?

Hi all....I just bought my 2000 Intrepid on Dec. 28 from a GM dealer....It had only 82000KM.....I've put less than 1000 km since, just driving in the city and today when I started it up, I noticed that there is a lot of ticking noise from the upper engine....I thought lifters?, tappits?.....drove it to the GM dealer where I purchased it (fortunately only about 2 mi. away)....
They're having it towed to the Chrysler dealer to see what's what....
I'm thinking it sounds very serious....and a bit surprized that it showed up so suddenly....
....stay tuned for the continuing saga.....

I know when i first got my 2000 trep,, it had some upper end noise,, at that time i didnt know crap about the 2.7,, so i thought "damn the old owners didnt take good care of this one" so i changed the oil like 3 times,, and after that she was quiet as could be, got about 75k out of her after that, it gave me good service,
but thats just my experance,,, hopefully its not to serious

Hi Chief Brody....Yes It should be covered as the basic warranty is 90 days on powertrain....(I thought it was only 30 so made sure to get it in there before the 28th)

.....Saga continues...

They phoned this afternoon....say it will have to be in overnight (no guff!)....They're tearing apart the front of the motor to see how much needs to be done and the initial diagnosis is the timing chain....(after 82K only)
.....I'll keep y'all posted

If it really is the timing chain make sure they also replace the tensioner and the water pump and clean out that sludge!

2.7 timing chain break update

Well I finally got the trep back today....they had to wait for parts....
It was covered under my warranty (except for a $100 deductable). They replaced the primary chane, guides, and gears, and intake gasket....no sludge found....so may be that might be all for now....oh, yeah....they did an oil change for some reason even though it only had a couple of hundred km. on it since the dealer did one...total cost was $1015.37

so its up and running again... They probably did an oil change since most of the oil prob got leaked out when they replaced the parts and worked on the engine, plus its always a good idea to have fresh oil after a job like that

Finally the insurance paid off.

Good luck with the 2.7L.

Thanks....I'm not sure I want to keep it now....I think I may try to sell it privately in the next month or two since the warranty goes to the end of March....either that or I might trade up from the dealer to something else, but I don't think they have anything on the lot that I'd be interested in right now and now is when I'd have to do it because they'll allow me my full price I paid towards a trade up.......Decisions, decisions......

heard back from isg on wed., they were offering us 2800, when i reminded them that we paid almost 6000 to replace engine they at first said i was lucky to get that much because i didnt owe any money on the car, i said what does that have to do with anything..how long it took to pay for the car, the fact that the engine died at 63000 miles with my proof of oil changes it shouldnt matter if the car is paid for or not it should not seize up because of sludge. after i told them that they said that i send them a copy of the letter they sent and reasons why we feel it is not a fair settlement and thay will present it back to chrysler. the more of us 2.7 r.i.p. ers out there who complain about this problem , the better chance we might have to get some real results from chrysler. ill let you all know what happens..

2.7 woes

Hi SripVW....I feel for you and good luck with your persuit of justice with Chrysler.....
I know that maybe I might be ok now with my motor but I'm awfully paranoid about it....maybe I can trade it in for another trep with a larger motor or even a PT cruiser.....
