George Deane AKA SteelBlue01 is setting up a Massive cool meet in Northern NJ for early August.
This will be a Prowler/300M/Intrepid meet.
Prowler Pro Link
for his original post! Guys this is going to be great.
NHRA / NASCAR DOUBLE HEADER AT THE JERSEY SHORE
NHRA at Raceway Park Friday night August 6th
NASCAR at Wall Speedway & tour IDA Automotive Saturday day August 7th
This combined meet is being set up for the entire DC 3.5L family. Notices are being posted in the primary clubs for Prowlers, Intrepids, and 300M/LH cars, but it's certainly open to 3.5 Mopars from any club and individuals.
Friday 8/6: Raceway Park Englishtown/Old Bridge, NJ home of the K&N SuperNationals
4:30-5:00 PM - Meet outside of the gates
5:00 PM - Gates open to the public
(It will be very easy for anyone arriving later to catch up with the group so don't let that deter you)
7:30 - Regular eliminations begin
9:00 PM - Tech Closes
Costs - $10 in pits for crews and spectators and $20.00 for those running time trials
Those making drag passes will be assigned a temporary competition number by the track for the night
Their cars will also have to go through the regular safety tech inspection (very easy)
Helmets are required for everyone running on the track
Wipe-off markers will be available to note comp numbers and bracket times on participant's windows
You will be impressed by this world class facility
You can get further information and take an interactive 360 degree tour view at http://www.racewaypark.com
The track is interested in helping out and has offered:
Two reserved staging lanes for meet participants
Guaranteed minimum of three passes each
Use of the new three story hospitality suite at the finish line
Reserved parking at the hospitality suite
An employee to vend soda and beer in the hospitality suite
Two Raceway Park trophies with the designation of our choosing
This does not limit clubs from providing their own awards as they see fit
With weeks to go we're open to suggestions and assistance.
Don Scruggs is assisting with arrangements in the DodgeIntripid.net and Chrysler300Club.org forums and Laddie Roussel is assisting with arrangement in the Prowler Owners Association in Prowleronline.com.
For any wishing to stay over we'll work on a nice place to stay central to both days and the tracks are only about 21 miles apart
Saturday 8/7: Wall Speedway Wall, NJ New Jersey's only NASCAR high bank asphalt oval. More information is available at http://www.wallspeedway.com
8:30-9:00 AM - Meet in the pits by the Green Flag Driving Experience trailers
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM - Meet, greet, check out cars, and watch the action
For those who wish to drive a working Legend or Three Quarter race car the GFDE is reducing the 2004 rate of $175.00 to $75.00 for meet participants for:
1st hour - Registration and instruction. Instruction includes orientation, basic safety rules and driving procedures. Each participant has the opportunity to climb in and check out a Legend and/or Three Quarter Midget race car to familiarize themselves with them.
2nd hour - 15 laps of driving experience getting the feel of the car of choice and chasing an instructor around the 16 degree banked straights and 30+ degree ends
3rd hour - Optional additional 10 lap sessions in a car of choice
Approaching 12 PM the GFDE will further accommodate meet participants by allowing those who wish to drive their own cars around the 1/3 mile banked oval for low speed tour laps before heading out.
I've posted several pictures each of the Three Quarter Midgets, Legends, and Modifieds at: http://www.mzilla.com/pages/4/index.htm
The TQs use a 500-750cc engine and centrifugal clutch and are darn fast, probably equal in lap speed to the bottom half of the Modified class due to the light speed and large wing that keeps them glued to the track. More info on them can be found at: http://www.atqmra.org
The Legends use a 1250cc engine and 5 speed transmission and have been a career launcher for notables like Dale Jr, Casey Atwood and Kurt Busch. They use a variety of replica bodies like: '34 and '37 Ford sedan, '37 Dodge Sedan, '34 Ford Coupe, '34 Chevy Sedans and Coupes. Note in the pictures that some opt to run suicide doors for easier entry/exit. They are featured at Motor Speedways like Lowe's, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Texas, Kentucy, Infineon, in fact at over 200 facilities. More info on them can be found at http://600Racing.com
Once complete at the track it will be time for lunch and some cold drinks along the route just about back to the strip but actually to IDA Automotive in Morganville to meet Bob Ida and check out their shop and cars currently under construction.
For more information on them you can check http://www.idaautomotive.com
Three of those planning to participate have had their cars customized and dyno tuned by Bob:
Al Chianelli (butchcee) - 2nd gen yellow twin turbo Prowler from New York
Rich Bozzelli - 3rd gen orange twin turbo Prowler (and top alcohol dragster runner) from New Jersey
George Deane (steelblue01) - direct port nitrous 300M owner from New Jersey
Also planning to participate are:
Laddie Roussel, a top Prowler drag racer from Louisanna
Don Scruggs, a top 300M bracket racer from Maryland
Bill Folchetti, an aspiring TQ midget race car driver from New York
Hopefully everyone will be able to attend both the NHRA and NASCAR/IDA Automotive segments but everyone is certainly invited to show up where and when they can and hang out and watch.
Once complete at IDA's we're open to calling it a day, or in doing something like driving to the ocean front to cruise the Ocean Ave boardwalk from Bradley Beach to Spring Lake and hang on the boards for a bit, or even hanging long enough to catch a meal somewhere and then return to the Speedway for the night's NASCAR multi-class racing action, but naturally everyone is open to bail out at any point and every site is along major state highways for easy access and departure.
BTW, this is the regular night's agenda for Wall Speedway that night:
08/07/2004 6:00 PM Saturday August 7, 2004
Description: Qualifying at 6:00pm
Regular Divisions: Modifieds, Pro Stocks, Street Stocks, Legends, Trucks, and GSVSCC (Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club)
Specials: "Owners Take a Turn" Race 10-Laps
Event Pricing: Adult $17, Child 6-12 $6, Under 6 Free
So if you prefer to just meet & greet, or would like to race on both a NHRA & NASCAR track in under 24 hours, this meet is for you!
Indications of intention to participate would certainly help planning, especially if overnight lodging is needed by anyone, and can be posted in the three club forums or here.
