code reader

I have an actron cp9125 pocket reader. The instructions on how to read and erase codes are easy. But the other functions instructions are not so clear or could be me.I search for clearer instructions but struck out. Does anyone have one and have a better understanding of it then I do? thx mitchb

never used one, i have a program on my laptop and an OBDII->USB cord. here's the manual if you need that, good luck.

I own the 9125 also and it is pretty basic, plug in, click read, scroll through codes, if you want to erase hold Erase until it says Erase? then hold it again until it says done

Yeah I get that part. The instructions for that were straight forward. But it also will monitor different systems like EGR,Misfire,o2sensor and heaters. That kind of thing, it will tell you how many systems are ready and how many are incomplete(INC).Then I think you can moniter one of those systems as you drive and then wahlah.It spits out some info on the display. I can't find it in owners manual or on their website. I am sure it will do these things I think. Just don't know how to do it. Thx.

It doesn't monitor live, it will only tell you if they are throwing a code during the read stage

It was about 60 bucks @A.Z. Reads and erases codes and I am still confused about what else it does. It surely does more then read and erase I hope. I know I read in a thread somewhere here on the site about the actron cp9125 reading a misfire. That is one of the monitors you can choose. the MIL function (malfunction indicator light ) only works after you start the car. If all it really does is read and erase that explains why the instructions in the owners man where so vague.

Do any of these readers you can buy at AZ and such read codes from the ABS controller or transmission?

the cable cost me 20 bucks on ebay and software ranges from free with limited capabilities to around $100 with all the bells and whistles, by far the best feature you want is data logging. OBD2007 is my favorite but I acquired a working version of proscan at no cost.

i like the laptop route because you can look at all the data simultaneously on a larger screen, save the logs and review them whenever, screenshots to share findings if you're working on a mod, etc.

you just plug the cable in, hit "connect" in whatever software you're using and live data is streaming in.

also, i haven't tried this but for those without a laptop, i would think you could get a usb extension and go from the car to a desktop in your garage, like you would see with a dyno.
