DI.net, relocating, new office. ;)
Today we are writing to let you know about a discussion that has been taking place behind the scene between admins and moderators, a discussion which has been very important to us and this sites future.
In 2007 DI.net went through some changes that were not not broad casted to its members, to whom we all agree deserved to know what was happening. Those changes that took place in 2007 while important would seem to many as something small but were overshadowed by a lack of communication on my part. 3 years later and we are now forced with a reality and a change that will be the turning point for DI.net.
My commitment to Dan, and Nick (nhogan) has always been to NOT sell the site. That was an original deal set in place with the previous owner and is one that I am standing behind still today. However, a car that is no longer made puts us in that inevitable position that the site will in all likely hood stop growing at some point. We still see new members here and there, we still get the odd person chiming in but it is not the machine it once was. No one can deny that there is something special about DI.net, the community is amazingly strong and the friendships and bonds are important to everyone. As a site owner and admin, it is important for me that not only does our forum continue to live on, but continue to grow in a way to encourages participation and community.
On September 1, 2010, Dodgeintrepid.net will start going through a 'site' change, what will not be affected is as follows; your account will remain the same, your posts, your images, the same friends and community, same posting software, same up-time, same admins, mods and forum speeds. What will be changing is the following; the logo, the domain.
Dodgeintrepid.net is being given a 2nd chance at life under the new domain, Dodgechat.net .
Why DC.net? First off, the .net remains the same for all of us, DI.net has a good ring to it and lets be honest, keeping it similar makes it better for all of us. Obviously, keeping dodge in the name is key. While we may not all own Treps anymore, many of us own dodges of some sort. The wealth of information both archived from DI.net and the current users is a shame to waste, why not keep it going forever? (rhetorical) ;) Using the word chat in the url helps us keep it open and platform friendly. The good outweigh the bad with the new domain with regards to what the future holds.
It is important to everyone who has been a part of the DI.net legacy to know and understand this isn't about 'killing' what we had, this is about us making it live on forever.
Everyone is welcome to chime in, say what they must but please respect that after the staff discussing this for the last 6 months (yea, really, that long) it is something that will materialize. How can you as a member make it better? Tell us what sections you want, what you are looking for, perhaps you feel you would make a great gearhead because you know about the 2.2 motors or the big diesels.
That all being said. Thanks to everyone who has made DI.net something worth fighting for. We have seen many members come and go, both good and bad. DodgeChat.net will certainly be neat to see grow.
