About died tonite

I about died today on the way home from work. Riding my bike which is a Buell Xb12r Firebolt. I was entering the hwy and getting on it and hit the redline all of a sudden I thought I missed a shift double checked and I was in gear turns out the belt broke on me while trying to get over I about got hit twice and while pushing it along the side of the road I almost got hit and I was 7 feet from the road on the edge of the breakdown lane. I always stop if I can when folks are broke down on the road and as I was pushing the bike to the next exit which is about a mile away a couple with a race/lawn trailer stopped and gave me a lift home which was much appreciated I gave them the 7$ I had on me wish it was more they didn't want to take it but I insisted. So... now I have no transportation lol R/T down and now the bike and the belt is $182.00 lol I'm just glad to be here.

Glad to hear that you're alright. I also try to move over if I can safely do so when somebody is broken down. I had a belt blow a couple of times on my snowmachine at it was scary. Thank god I always have a spare and it takes 30seconds to change it.

I have always gotten over for people stopped on the shoulder, I always thought there was plenty of clearance without doing so but that it couldn't hurt in case, say, somebody comes out from behind the vehicle, or throws their door open, or something happens to my steering or something to cause a quick rightward pull, but a couple winters ago I was re-affirmed in my practice when I blew a tire on the Intrepid in I-70. There wasn't an exit in sight, it was dark and there was a lot of traffic. Many cars got over into the opposite lane, but a lot didn't, and a lot of them were large, like semi trucks and the like - there's few things real that are as scary as being on the shoulder with 80mph traffic passing that close with your wife and 2yr old in the car.
