Spares

So my wife just bought a 2011 Chevy Malibu LTZ.

It has absolutely everything... except a spare tire. They give you a tire inflator and a can of goo instead.

What good is that supposed to do you in a blowout? I hope this trend doesn't spread. I'm off to look for a spare tire kit. (grumble) Does anyone else find this insane?

So when budget cuts hit are they going to make a box of bandaids or a roll of duct tape become the standard for tire repair?

Insane ? No ....they charge more for a car and build them cheaper...that is a sound business model.
I would like to know what is the next thing that used to be standard on all cars that they will be made smaller cheaper or just dropped all together.

That has become a common thing with new cars. Less weight, CAFE Fuel mileage certifications etc. $100 "option" on my daughters Cruze for a spare. Told the dealer to either take it out or cut another hundred from the price. They left it in and cut the $
