Subframe Bushings

Thought I needed to start my own thread on this, but are the front bushing retaining nuts welded on, or can you put a wrench in the side slot of the frame to the keep the nut from turning?

I tried shining a light in the slot, but I can't tell if the nut in there is six-sided or not.

For what it's worth, I can't tighten the retaining bolt because of the spinning nut. If the slot is a wrench slot, what size wrench fits in there?

Thanks.

Mine were not nuts. They were round. Originally they are welded in there, but the welds break. I'm pretty sure the frame is closed right there from the factory so people/shops cut holes so you can reach a tool in to hold the other end. If yours has a slot, sounds like the welds have already been broken.

I had to hold mine with a good pair of vice grips set EXTREMELY tight, then I hit the bushing bolt with a good impact. Letting it soak for a while in PB Blaster or similar ahead of time will help too.

I tried attaching a pair of vice-grips through the slot yesterday, but the nut is recessed just below the slot opening, and I could not get a clean grip.

Looks like the window in the subframe (front bushings) was created at the factory for what it's worth.

This is a 1996 Concorde.
