What i got to this weekend (Pics inside)

Timing belt tensioner busted this weekend, spent friday and saturday replacing it. we had to remove the radiator becuase the tensioner bolt busted off in the block, and we needed clearence to get a drill in there to get it out. otherwise it would defintly be possible without taking out the radiator. anyways.. what a pain in the ass of a job.... spent about $200 in parts.

heres some pics:

The busted tensioner, and pieces of it where they laid when we opened the timing cover:

The Old, and New timing belt tensioners

The various parts we had to remove to get under the timing cover

The smoke cloud that results from trying to start the car with the timing being off 90 degrees

A nice shot with everything removed except the harmonic balancer, which came off later

enjoying a beer after the first succesfull start

defintly feel better that i did it myself. i considered bringing it in, but i wouldn't of had the car back until monday at the earliest. Now that it's done, i can't ever imagine bringing it to someone else to fix anything ever again

Nice yellow spark plug wires. Where did you get them?

FYI, the bolt hole for the tensioner is on the front plate. Not the block itself. That plate will accually come off the engine if you drop the oil pan, and take off the crank timing belt pulley. Just so you know, incase it breaks again or something.

EDIT:Grammar Correction

altogether, about 8-10 hours... but thats including time to run for parts, fluids, tools etc..

only tool i didn't have was a 3 jaw puller to remove the crank pulley, and autozone rented it out to me. for everything else you just need a standard socket set... and some patience to get the timing marks lined up

if i had to do it again, we could probably do it in lot less time, because we made probably 5 trips to the store (kept on forgeting stuff)

the yellow spark plugs wires, i bought from forrest city auto parts, but their no longer in business. at least not in this area

once we were able to get the drill in there with an easy-out, the bolt came right out

Timing ?

I am about to take on the timing belt/ water pump on my 94 3.5L concorde. I'm afraid I'll screw up the timing when I slap the new belt on. How can I prevent that and how do I set the timing since I've never done that before. Thanks!
