1994 Intrepid--work in progress--

Ok, im new here and figured id post my car and see what happens. Ive got a 3.3L V6, auto, all original parts except for my stereo I tossed into the car and my neon that I have running around my deck. It has about 220, 000 KM on it and is still running strong. Just had it spinning around in the snow where I work, so fun whipping it around. Anyways, heres some pics of it.

There it is, I haven't really done anything to it. Bought it from my grandfather for $500. He port and polished the engine for me and I can top this baby out at 190km/h on a good straightaway lol. The down side of it is that the clear coat on the back quarterpanel on the passenger side has all been torn to bits and the paint job itself is starting to fade. Ive looked into a new paintjob as well as rockerpanel work. I took off the LeBra just to see underneath and found out that I should definately replace my hood as there is alot of rust under there, what can be expected for a 1994 Intrepid thats been in BC, Vancouver, MB and now Ontario though right.

Total cost of car so far:
$500 for car
$1300 for stereo and deck neon

Upcoming mods:
New rims, interior neon, tinted windows, stainless steel exhaust from the Cats, new tires.

System pictures:

Thumbs down

Good looking 'Trep, and not a bad deal at all for $500.00.

I paid $350.00 for mine, but it was at auction, so prices are usually lower due to the "unknown" factor.

Do you plan to mod it, or are you going to leave it like it is?

Ive been thinking about modding it. Ive got a APC muffler at home that ive heard on other intrepids here in Canada and they have the low rumbling sound of a V8 that ive been looking for so I want to put on it, but im gonna wait till the stock exhaust gets really bad first because on this trepid the actual muffler is up by the cats instead of at the back. Im gonna toss in either a K&N air filter or another air filter just for a little bit of added performance. Im not sure what else I could do to it, ive thought about some rims for it but not sure yet. Im still in college so I figure ive got time to work on it and if this one dies on me ill just get another one from my grandfather. He sells these cars like he is a manufacturer of them.

I know what you mean. From what I have read in my time on here, there are some easy mods to do that will improve the cars. If you have a junkyard near you that has Intrepids, then you should have a pretty easy way of adding options that your's did not come with when it was built.

The problem that I am looking at right now, is that the junkyard that I usually frequent, does not have any Intrepids at all so far.

There is another junkyard about 10 miles or so from here, but I try not to go there, due to the way that they do business, and the fact that they are so high on everything. I once paid $15.00 for a piece of plastic trim for the radio on one of my Trans Am's, so I usually shy away from them. Often you can pay a little more and just get it new.

I would scout the local junkyards and see what they have that you may could easily add to upgrade, and start from there. That is what I plan to do if I can ever find a yard with reasonable prices with any Intrepids.

Good luck with it, whatever you decide to do.

I love the first Gen's. The prices are now getting reasonable enough to be able to buy and mod them without spending a ton of cash to make them look good.

I have to say that I can never get over the older(than my '97) Intrepids that do not have the fog lights. Not that they look bad at all, but after seeing my Intrepid daily it looks different.

Perhaps later you could do an Autostick transmssion. Have you given that any consideration?

Oh and I had to say, that at the auction that I purchased my car at, there is a fellow that sells Intrepids there, too(although I did not buy mine from him) and he said that he could sell any that he could get his hands on, so I know what you mean about someone selling them like they built them.

Ok, I am sorry but I just find that downright funny.

You say your stereo cost 2.6 times more then the car itself then you didn't include one single pic of it or any system specs at all!

Yea it did cost me 2.6 times my car. The reason being is because of the 2.5 hour install, the 2 10" kicker CVR's w/box, all around panasonic speakers (which i am upgrading), Alpine 650watt RMS mono amplifer, monster cable, Kenwood 4032 deck. Ill get pics up shortly just give me some time, I came home from work and was tired.

1stGen....yea, I got a few junkyards close and my mechanic is always on the lookout for scrap parts for me, as well as holding any trepids he gets for me to tear apart.

Whats this autostick thing? Im pretty happy with my automatic tranny and my shifter on the floor center console instead of on the steering column. Haha, yea I kinda wish my intrepid had the foglights on it, im tired of my crappy headlights. The clearcoating that they spray over the whole car has turned yellow and its made my lights extremely dim. As well as the fact that my headlights are now moveable, they bounce with the road its crazy. Any idea what I could do?

Looks like a good, clean Trep. If you're talking about the clear coat on the black between the rear side windows and the back window, I've got that coming off too. Not sure why, I guess its just the elements. Should be interesting to see what else you can do to it! Oh and welcome to the site

Thanks man, appreciate it . And oh yeah, duh I know where you're talkin about. Yea, hopefully with my clear coat issue, the auto shop I'm gettin the paint done will do a nice job on it, maybe it'll last longer than before.

Hope everything goes good for you, im not sure where to start for any type of modification...plus we just had a huge snow storm and I dont have a garage so it'd be hard for me to do anything during the winter. Might just leave it a sleeper and get my exhaust done or do some engine work through the winter.
