oil leaking out of the top of the engine (pictures)

hello all,
i have to tell you , i know nothing about car problems or what the names of the parts of cars are.
but i have been to these forums many times and you guys solve my problems or tell me what the problem is
and i tell the people at the car shop what to do from what i learn here.
now today i just discovered a new problem on my 2002 2.7l intrepid , it has 80k miles

i smell oil burning, so i look and find this,
oil is leaking out from right under where the plastic top part of the engine is. i circled it , its where the plastic meets the metal.
i checked the oil and its still full , but i know the car is unsafe to drive now. because the oil is dropping and its burning to smoke
on where the exhaust pipes start to come out of the engine. so if anyone can help me , and name what the problem is here , i would be very grateful. thank you.

The black plastic part is the Valve Cover. It looks like the gasket that seals it to the the Cylinder Head is leaking.

Might want to check your PCV valve and associated hoses. Have your mechanic check it.

how hard would it be to fix it myself, don't you just take the top off and lay a new gasket in ?

i got it fixed now, it was a head valve gasket or something like that, the part was cheap and didn't take long to fix.
