Noise from some pulley 3.2L engine.

Hi, some pulley produces noise, I think it is the ALTR one in the attached diagram, you can hear it in the Youtube video i have made. Should I fix this? can alternator result damaged by this in some time?
Do you know which pulley is this in the attached parts diagram?

Peva The sketch on the right is not of your engine, but there are similar idler/tensioner pulleys (item’s 3 and 10) on your engine (as shown in the decal of your left thumbnail) - one per accessory belt similar to those shown. Your alt. belt is serpentine, the a.c. belt is a V-belt.

90+% chance one of the idler/tensioner pulley bearings is shot. Replace the offending pulley - aftermarket or dealer.

Could be the alternator itself has bad bearings, but that would be rare.

Also a small chance that it is the timing belt tensioner pulley bearing - low chance of that, but serious engine damage could be in your future if ignored. It would be a more muffled sound as it’s enclosed behind the timing cover.

Summary: Most likely a idler/tensioner bearing. They can last a long time after they start making noise, but you should not assume it’s that in case it is alternator or timing belt tensioner. Best to fix it soon.

Also consider replacing the accessory belts depending on their age and condition. Sometimes the belts themselves can make similar noise if dry or liquid (oil or antifreeze) contaminated.

You can use a dowel stick as a stethoscope by placing it on the stationary mounting bolt of the suspect idler/tensioner pulleys. The bad one will sound much louder.

I think it is the alternator pulley which is emitting that noise. Is it sold separately? Can be that pulley detached from the alternator and replaced? is it enough with the pulley itself or any other volt or bushing is needed?

The tensioner pulley was replaced 2 years and 13.000 miles ago, it is a DORMAN 419602. The belt was also replaced and it is GATES K060529.

Are you saying that the pulley is loose on the alternator shaft, i.e. pulley spinning and the shaft is not turning or not turning as fast as the pulley? If so, the nut just needs to be tightened, but this would be unusual.

If the alternator pulley is not loose, and the noise is from the alternator and not from the idler/tensioner pulley, then there are problems internal to the alternator. I suggest the “stethoscope” method to determine the source of the noise so you don’t repair or replace something that isn’t broken. Again, the most likely cause is bad idler/tensioner pulley.
