I am trying track down a fuel leak from on top of my fuel tank I pulled the tank and can’t tell. Which line is the fuel return line I have looked all over the forums and web but can’t figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. It’s a 01 intrepid 2.7. Thank you
Not sure I know what you mean by fuel return line. If you’re thinking that there’s a return line from the fuel rail back to the tank for pressure regulation, our cars don’t have that. The pressure regulation is done in the tank and dumps excess fuel back into the tank directly from the fuel pump, which resides in the tank.
Are you thinking there’s leaking from the evaporative purge system?
Maybe this diagram will help. Item 2 (recirc. tube - in case that’s what you mean by return line) comes right off the filler tube and dumps right into the system on top of the tank:
It was leaking while the car was running from somewhere on the top of the tank. But not when the car was turned off. The top of the fuel pump had what looked to be cracks from it drying out so I replaced it and I got new fittings and fuel line to make a new fuel line from the pump to the line at the frame of the car
Did you fix it? If you haven't yet I'm thinking you could maybe make some extensions for the fuel line and wires and test run it with the tank on the floor so you could get a look at where it's actually leaking from
