Hi everyone, First time poster here. I just purchased a 2000 Dodge Intrepid 3.2 ES with 141,000 miles on it. It's been abused some, and it is a first car for my 16 year old daughter. The AC / Heat blows through the vents, but won't switch to defrost or any other setting. When I select a different setting, it will light up like it changed but doesn't. I'm wondering if there is a way for me to manually switch the blend door so it's stuck blowing through defrost vents? Or if the fix is simple, I'd do it. Thanks for this awesome forum to help me with this new project!
My car does the same thing, I have a 2000 3.2. Apparently there is an actuator that is fairly easily replaceable. TBH I haven't looked into it much but from the brief research I did do it appears to not be an extensive repair.
The actuator is available in aftermarket, but they are all made by Dorman, and they do not work. Rock Auto carries the OEM actuators, but they’re pricey ($80-$110). You might find OEM on eBay. Or get them from a salvage yard.
Those will work - for a while (couple of years). I would try that first as an easy & cheap fix. Then if the car is kept and the problem reoccurs - get the OEM one.
I think I wrote up a How To on the mode door actuator many years ago.
Thanks. Not the news I was hoping for but I appreciate the responses. Since the heat and ac come through the vents ok, I think I'll look into a little defroster that plugs into the lighter and sits on dash.
Thanks again!
Hey Ronbo, nice post, on topic, and really answers what was originally asked! I'm sure Rob, being a new poster, appreciates the help!
