Can't pump fuel in - even when a quarter of a tank low.

Can't pump fuel in - even when a quarter of a tank low. It seems full - gas spurts out and pump shuts off - even when I pump it in very slowly. Which in NJ is not even allowed - station must pump - but they give up...

Can I change the internal fuel pump with the built-in filter or is there something else that is could be causing this?

Thanks in advance - for the endless aid with this - otherwise it is going great - I have put 40,000 miles on it since I got it for $700 and it still looks new (kinda)

ok - some more info. It seems fine if I go to station with older pumps. might be a combo of new extra fast pumps and something a bit off with my Evap system.

Thanks very much! How do I change this? Is it with the fuel pump in the gas tank? I have that whole part - was thinking of having my mechanic put that in.

Thanks for helping now! So what causes this? Is it over filling the tank? Will it dry out if I wait a while? I have an 04 Concorde 3.4L any idea what part number I should order at Rock auto?

I got one on ebay - the seller says it has the solenoid with it but he doesn't know where the filter is. Is it above the tank? See photo..

Thanks for all the help. I might try just changing the canister myself since it looks easy and I will have a used spare soon.

I also just ordered the NOS Mopar filter see attached photos.

I had also bought a new pump last year - if I have my mechanics drop the tank then I will get them to change that out too. Apparently the only fuel filter in this car is built into the pump.

Attached photis of canister vapor filter - hoses and bracket... I got it for $45 from dealer on ebay. CHRYSLER OEM Vapor Canister-Detection Pump 4581352AB

I did change all three things - the pump - the carbon canister & the Vapor filter.

Good News - I can now fill up at any gas pump.
Bad News - It now for the first time is throwing codes!
P0440 & P0441 - going back to my shop to see if anything is loose - I have my old canister - could try replacing that back again. I reset the codes when they first went off - 67 miles after the job was done. The codes came back - well the one code P0440 -- btw I did smell a little gas after just filling up in the trunk - but that might be normal...
